Tourney has never allowed you to keep challenges, win or lose. Some conferences let you keep a successful challenge. But not the NCAA yes I'm aware of that, but I thought that was the reason for the whole experiment in conferences (Kentucky v. Wash last spring) to see if it could work and possibly have it during tourney time. I misread your first comment. I thought it said ‘when’ not ‘why’.

On a side note I feel bad for the UT soccer team. Some event staff told them to sit in the first 3 rows of the middle seats (net) in the upper deck. When other ticket holders started coming in before tipoff the ushers had to get them out, by then their were not many seats left. Think they got regulated to some corner high up.

I hope they fix whatever clusterf-ck happened with the student/Hellraisers sections last night. The dedicated seating areas were all a mess!

Yeah, I'm assuming it was popular everywhere it was used. I haven't heard anybody who disliked it.

Kind of funny (in a not funny way) that a lot of the impetus for the change was KCook not having a challenge left in last years loss to Kentucky when there was what seemed like a bad call.
So they experiment with a much improved system during the regular season, but end it just in time for KCook to have to mull his options and opt against a challenge on a debatable call.

Except you don't know for certain it was Elliott's decision, and not one of the other assistant coaches' decisions, or a collective strategy. This need to assess "blame" is so juvenile. I know you follow Texas (at least recently); but, we win as a team/program, and we lose as a team/program. As far I'm concerned, you can ditch the blame-game. And as far as I’m concerned, the head coach always has the final say. I’ve worked within a D1 program. But also, I was born and raised in Texas as a Texas fan, and have been specifically following and cheering for Texas volleyball since Haley Eckerman, which might not seem like a long time, but that was MIDDLE SCHOOL for me. I’m just hoping we don’t come out and serve Lexi Rodriguez all game lol, I think the PROGRAM learned their lesson on that one though. I was puzzled by consistently serving the libero but more concerning to me was the way we’re serving. In sets 1-2 they seemed more concerned with minimizing service errors and in turn served way too many soft serves into the bread basket of UW players. In sets 3-5 they seemed to put more pace on the ball and tried to hit seems more which also means you run the risk of a SE. All season I have said that’s what makes this team different from last year, the additional service pressure. It’s a risk reward thing because we have seen the risk, but at this level of competition you can’t leave weapons in the holster no matter who you are serving.

As I was trying to quickly read through the 70+ pages of this thread yesterday, I noticed calls that seemed to annoy people.
First was the serve long that many seemed to think Logan touched on the way out. I sat on the Washington side of it. Cook got the card, but one of his assistants reached out to him and said something, which made him put the card back on the table. I thought there was no touch, but I'm a Texas homer. I just finished re-watching the third set of the game and they didn't do a replay of that serve during the broadcast.
The second was the point where Washington hit the pin and the up judge said it was point Texas, the down judge said it was a net by Texas and the unreliable linesman, I don't know what he was up to. During the replay with the Paul and Salima, I was surprised to hear them say, "Uhhhh, I don't know. Did it touch the pin?" Seriously? I mean yeah the ping didn't go crazy but you can clearly see the ball graze the pin, which probably shook the net, which led the down judge to signal a net because someone "obviously" on the Texas side must have touched the net to make it move.
Am I wrong?

I think you're right. The TV replay showed what looked to me like the ball clearly grazing the antenna.

The “pin” point was driving me crazy. I couldn’t believe the level of vacillation. But it didn’t matter once the call was overturned. I wish they’d showed a replay of the out of bounds allegedly off of Logan. It’s immaterial now, but if it’s going to be a point of emphasis, it would have been nice to get a closer view of the play. It was so one sided at that point I think the production crew had a similar mindset to Cook. “My gosh, Washington is crushing Texas at this point. What does it matter?”
