Not there, but holy crap, looks like Circle City been running circles around the competition in 17 Open. Truly embarrassing scores. They finally got a challenge (in one set) from Mintonette today.

Yes, in the 18 Open, looks like Northern Lights got bounced By Tri-State Elite that won the pool from the third seed in the bracket. Dynasty Black drops to 3rd and KC Power gets 2nd. FC Elite also is out as Triangle 18 Black ends up 2nd from 4th seed.
In their respective brackets.
This was Elite’s second time beating Lights so I would only call it an upset from a seeding standpoint.

Looks like A5 took the 18 Open, with Metro in 2nd, OT 3rd and MN 4th, but might be a tie for 3rd as I do not see a Bronze match.

I didn’t believe it at first when I saw on AES. Watching the replay on BallerTV now to see what went down… Could you give a report for those with out a ballertv account lol I thought you’d never ask! Drive started the first set very slow, down something like 3-9. Ping gets so frustrated with starting OH Bailey Miller (West Virginia) that he pulls her for Lauryn Hill (UL-Lafayette), who remained on the floor for the remainder of the match. She makes an error immediately after stepping onto the floor but seemed to get things somewhat under control and goes on a serving run to get them back within 2 before missing her serve (I’ll come back to this later). During this serving run, Ceci Gooch (Michigan) took control on the right pin. Setter Callie Kieffer (Alabama) knew it too and fed her almost every decent pass she got. Attacking errors from TAV’s outsides were a bit of a lifeline for Drive, but Kea Whillock kept most balls in play that made it in the court. Serve receive was less than functional, although OH Halle Schroeder (Boston College) surprised me with her ball control at some times, and not at all other times. I wasn’t used to seeing the blocking efficiency so low for Drive, as Reese Robins (Louisville) and Leah Ford (USC) were not their usual defensive powerhouses at the tape (I only heard one “THE BLOCK IS HOT” chant from the Drive parents if that tells you anything). Both right pin blockers for Drive got tooled many many times. Ping’s serving strategy seemed to be right at TAV’s Lib (they’re both blonde and the camera was behind Drive’s side of the court, so it was hard for me to tell which one it was, but I believe McKenna Gildon), who kept S Audrey Clark in system probably 98% of the time. Kyndal Stowers (Baylor) was her usual crafty but powerful self. A handful of non-conventional kills from TAV’s middles and opposites. Skip to 19-19 in the first set, and Hill makes an error on the outside. Then Gooch makes an error off a 2-ball in the middle. 21-19 TAV. An error from MB Hannah Pfiffner (Oklahoma) gives possession back to Drive. Hill’s up to serve, and proceeds to go on a four point service run (kill from Ford and scrappy Drive defense) before TAV coach Jon Nasgowitz calls a timeout. 23-21 Drive Nation. Hill serves into net out of the T.O. Big Block from Pfiffner, and its tied at 23. Overpass from Schroeder results in a swipe and TAV’s up 24-23. Ping calls T.O. Serve goes to Schroeder again, who handles it nicely, but after a short rally, Stowers tools Ford to end the set. No changes to the lineup for Drive, Hill remains in for Miller on the left. For TAV, UCLA commit Sydney Breon enters the lineup for I believe the first time this match ( Emily Simmons played the other OH in the first set). Back and forth for the first few points, with a notable slam by TAV OPP Kamille Gibson (Tennessee). Back and forth for a good chunk of this set. An uncharacteristic error by Ford, and a few kills from Breon buts TAV ahead 17-15. Schroeder gets aced, Hill gets aced, and Ping calls T.O. at 19-15 TAV. Several easy tips to Gildon and TAV’s up 21-16. Stowers probably took 20 swings in this increment of time. Drive’s final point of the set comes from a double called on a free ball from TAV, and Whillock goes back to serve. Miscommunication on out of system ball, and a free ball to TAV results in a Stowers tool of Gooch. 23-17 TAV. I’m pretty sure its Clark back at the line for TAV, and she finishes out the set (Error from Gooch, sneaky shot to deep corner by MB Stephanie Gutierrez). From the start, it felt as though Drive was just exhausted and out of sorts. Scores from their Gold Pool didn’t seem like much of a challenge for Ping’s squad, but not all the cylinders were firing during that TAV game. Obviously a lot of emotion that goes on in a matchup like this (Coach Jon quite literally bunny hopping around the bench on several occasions), but it was fun game to watch, despite the lack of intensity from the Drive Nation side of the net. My props to TAV!

Wow. Excellent write up.
Also, big props to MN Select 18-1 for placing 3rd and getting their Open bid. They had a huge match against Tri-State Elite this morning and won 29-27, 24-26, 15-13.
