Dude. This thread used to be informative. And now it is your two idiots heckling each other and bringing zero value. Maybe DM each other and leave the thread for actual useful information?
Thanks

My apologies everyone. I will show better restraint and stick solely to the topic of this thread.

It’s too bad there is not one nationals that truly has all the top teams and not what we have now where it is split in two.

I think I have read (Probably on VT) that JVA split out at some point and created another National Venue. USAV is very expensive with the required stay and play. Not sure that is the whole story, or accurate. AAU has been around for more than a Century I believe. Of course, I could be mistaken.

AAU is holding its 49th Volleyball Championships this year. 1973 was the first year. USAV held its first Championships in 1988 in Ft Collins, CO.

Some noble reasons some not. Stay to Play is one. The need to travel the country to chance bids is another. And a general unwillingness by USAV to listen to the concerns of club directors and work with them. Also, club owners that didn’t own a qualifier wanted to run big tournaments and make money.

Although I think both tournaments are great, filled with many top teams and, are hard to win; the point of contention with AAU's is that anybody can play Open in that tournament, as opposed to earning your way into the Open division via a bid.

I was just discussing this with another parent; Open kind of implies that it is Open to any and all teams. It came up that a team had signed up for Open not realizing that in USA that is the elite level. They were welcomed to join, but ended up getting crushed.

Everyone wants to say they are Champions!
USAV added a few more divisions this year, so they now have 7 division options. AAU has 5 divisions in their Championships. There is obviously a growing demand, so don't ever see the absolute top 36 (or choose any #) ever getting together under 1 roof to decide a true National Champion again.
Open level teams (major clubs) are now entering lower divisions to secure that Nationals bid. There are 12+ teams per age group that will have National Champions in their social media headlines. Some clarify division, so go on with shiny objects get likes.

That almost happened to my DD's team when she first started. The coach didn't know the significance of the division names and signed up for a division WAY beyond where the girls were at. After MUCH begging and pleading they were allowed to go one level lower which still ended up with them getting their butts kicked.

In my opinion, the most rewarding is the USAV Open championship because you have to qualify to play in that. Of course, that is the most expensive route because you have to deal with all the pay to play qualifiers. Perhaps only those parent's kids who have the resources to pay those bills can play in those tournaments. Does that mean it has the best teams? Probably not.
The AAUs don't have the restrictions about your participation. Anyone can play that submits an application. There are also some pretty good teams that play in that, including many who can't afford the pay to play qualifier tournaments that the USAV runs.
It would be kind of cool if the USAV and the AAU spent some of that money they earned from all the participating team's entry fees and staged a USAV vs AAU Open championship playoff. They may get some of their money back with streaming and admission charges. But I'm not expecting that to happen.
