wonder what (if anything) will happen to the pool in Russia. isnt the men's WCH in russia too? they could move the VNL to italy... that would make the most sense... they have all of the infrastructure in place.

well... (assuming this applies to VNL too)
"Volleyball World Cup 2022 outside Russia? There is no topic. FIVB's position today: the organization works closely with the Russian side and preparations are progressing according to plan. "The FIVB believes that sport should always be outside politics." "The FIVB is closely monitoring the situation.""

Can I just take this opportunity to say how stupid the 12 core teams/4 challenger teams is? I think all teams should have to earn their spot either by qualifying through CEV, CSV, NORCECA, etc. or world ranking. I mean, most of the "core teams" would probably qualify anyways, but I just hate how some teams are guaranteed and opportunity to develop their players without worrying about results, when there are other better teams that could definitely play at VNL and gain more international experience instead. I guess it's all about the money.

I wonder if Russia will still be host to VNL or if this changes by summertime?

I wonder if Russia will still be host to VNL or if this changes by summertime? right now, FIVB/CEV are saying no. Both confirmed events in russia/plans in the past two days. "sports should always be out of politics" is what they said... as if this is politics Gazprom is sponsoring the men's event... and I think they might sponsor the CL too

the polish men's clubs have already said they do not want to play in russia.
several german and polish clubs have made statements of support to ukraine/condemning Russia.
i dont see how the Polish men (WCH) or women (VNL) would play this summer in russia barring major changes (to the current climate)
I would also assume Poland would have reservations about hosting the Russian women in the WCH too

I wonder who will take over the hosting duties for the women’s VNL? Italy did a nice job last year. Would they give it to Italy again?

That surely would not be “sports out of politics”. US don’t have much of a say in FIVB, I’m just gonna hope European teams Poland for starters make a firm stand. Side note: Karch’s father escaped Soviet invasion to come to the US

All it takes is a few to boycott before the dominos fall.

Tickets for VNL in Calgary are supposedly going on sale next week. Details should be out soon.

USAV has tons of sway here... they need to step up and say/do something. Playing in Louisiana twice doesn't sound as bad as in Russia once now...
