I hear what you're saying. Barnes has had a chip on her shoulder against MN since she decided to leave and sometimes looks manic out there trying to prove herself. If you haven't noticed it then I think you're not looking too hard. I wish she could have just left no hurt feelings, but obviously some still there on both sides. Lauren Barnes has proven herself. No need for chips...everyone in this story has proven themselves now. That's why they are where they are.
Excellent volleyball awaits us. The Northern Tier of B1G Volleyball now occupies 25% of the 2021 Division 1 Bracket. All hail the Northern Tier!

both teams are great, but I love seeing Miyabe smile after great plays, so go gophers . Also <3 Samedy. Shaff is going to have to deliver some good tempo.

I'm excited for the match simply because of what's at stake - it's the tournament, and a FF berth is on the line. I'm not that excited to see MN-WI for the third time this season. As for the Gophs chances? A slight chance, but WI the clear favorite. Their previous two matchups were so blatantly different - and not all of that can be because of home-away. Basically MN has a small chance to win a nail biter, while WI has more "room" and could do anything from win in 5 to win comfortably in 3.

I would also like to see the Gophers pull out a win. Not sure if it's their year though. I heard that Cook said that the Elite Eight is typically the toughest match in the tournament. Why do you think that is? I have not noticed any "mania" vs the Gophers that isn't there otherwise. Barnes goes all-out no matter who the opponent is.

Easy sweep by the Badgers. What a great draw they got. No disrespect, but if you think it'll be an easy sweep you must have fallen asleep during yesterday's matches. I sat in the Field House from 1 to 7 pm. The Gophers were called to play at a higher level during their match. I don't think the team who wins tomorrow is going to have an easy time. (But the Badgers will have the crowd.)

Yes!! I loved how they waved for a "good game" greeting but yet joined hands in a prayer circle. SMH! They waved — but then Yossi and Samedy hugged, which started more hugging and then it ended with the prayer circle. I love it. What classy players.

An injured Samedy does not bode well for the Gophers. Huh?? She was having noticeable problems with her shoulder during the match and her mechanics and velocity were awry. I hope it is something a day of treatment will remedy, but…we’ll see how it goes.

More than focusing on Samedy, I’d love to shift the focus to how other players really stepped up when needed. Miyabe was out of her mind, Ellie had some great swings, CC and Kilkelly did a great job (looking at Kilkelly in the 5th in particular). Myers’ serving was critical at times. Wenaas’ development since Rollins departure has been really fun to watch. It’s always so rewarding for fans when you see players step up to their potential at the most pressure filled moments.
The match tomorrow will be particularly fun. I do think Wisconsin has a little more room for error, but overall I hope to see a good, competitive match come what may.

Here’s to hoping Samedy is healthy for tomorrow’s game and we have a slugfest between two NPOY candidates Samedy and Hilley?

Funny how everyone is mentioned but Shaffmaster. I felt she did one of her better jobs of mixing it up, and had the moxie to NOT go to Samedy down the stretch, when Wenaas and Miyabe were on. Loved to see her get more aggressive offensively too.

If healthy, I like MN's chances. WI will certainly be a (deserved) favorite, but I can't imagine they love the draw of playing a rival, and one that took them to the limit 3 weeks ago. I feel like MN is peaking at the right time, unlike some recent seasons. Here's to a great match and a strong B1G Final 4 entrant.

Two years ago, Wisconsin played Nebraska in this round to get to the Final Four

Loved to see her get more aggressive offensively too. We just got a reminder of the human aspect of the college game in the Baylor-Gopher thread. Melani reminded me of that as well in her quotes in the StarTribune the last couple weeks: "I'm just going to be honest with you because I don't have a problem telling people, but I was just like, 'I don't know what I'm doing here right now,' " Shaffmaster said. "It's a lot of hard work and just so much more stressful than it should be. But I came back to — I've been playing volleyball for 15 years, and it is what I love to do and if I wasn't doing it, I don't know what I would be doing." "Being able to allow yourself to know you're not going to make the right decision every single time is probably a hard part," she said. You go girl! Go Melani! Go Gophs! Let's have a good match

I agree that MN is peaking at a good time, but I’d say Wisconsin is as well. I mean, they’ve hit over .350 (including .455!!) in all three tournament matches, two of which were against really good defensive teams. AND they’re actually getting some offense from Orzol and Loberg instead of just Dana all the time. I’d expect a tough match either way, i just hope my badgers win lol
