Question - if there are no additions to our roster and if either Terry or Nunge cannot play, who plays on the left pin? Will Stephenson be ready? Mosher? Gregus? Is someone else learning the position just in case, and if so, who?

Something is better than nothing, but this is disheartening if true.

Something is better than nothing, but this is disheartening if true. Thanks for sharing the link! I guess I'm not quite so disheartened. Would have loved an announcement about a new volleyball arena in the works but none of the improvements to Huff that were mentioned seem like they'd be so expensive as to preclude an arena. True- paint, video board, and lights aren't super exciting : ). Maybe a video board would at least improve the experience for fans in GA seating. Hopefully we'll see some video or hear the full audio of the roundtable to see if Whitman elaborated at all about volleyball.

I was really hoping to hear something about upgraded facilities for the team. They have been one of the more successful programs on-campus. But alas, they don't seem to have a rich benefactor like other non-revenue sports.

Putting retractable bleachers at the north end to reduce the number of people who have to sit in the distant restricted view seats would be a relatively cheap improvement and would bring more fans close to the court.

Am I the only one glad they’re staying at Huff for now? Sure, it could use some improvements (which hopefully will happen), but that place has such a homey feel and an environment that’s hard to beat when it’s packed. I would’ve been sad to see them leave.

Gymnastics practices at Kenney, which has been converted to a dedicated gymnastics practice facility. It must be at least a little irritating for volleyball and wrestling to head to their basement locker rooms and weight training facilities after walking past the palaces known as Smith and Ubben for basketball and football. Tennis, golf, women’s soccer, baseball, softball, track and field and soccer all have relatively new and upgraded facilities. I don’t begrudge wrestling a new workout facility as referenced by JW, and I certainly respect JW’s efforts to upgrade what were some of the worst varsity athletics facilities in the B1G, but if wrestling gets a new workout facility volleyball will be by itself in inferior space. fightingillini.com/facilities

Typically at this time of year, I am filled with hope and excitement for the upcoming Illinois volleyball season. I have occasionally made a trip to an away volleyball tournament prior to the start of the B1G schedule. Today I made travel reservations for a trip to the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge in Boulder. I made a trip to Ft. Collins back in August of 2018 to attend the Colorado State tourney where Illinois defeated UNCW, Colorado State, and Northern Colorado to finish 3-0. However, the matches with Northern Colorado (at Greeley) and No.25 Colorado State were both nail-biters with Illinois eking out 3-2 wins.
Colorado is a great state to visit, and I am anxious to see how this version of the Illini fare vs. Washington and Colorado.

Tamas has to be losing his mind over the facility issues. Most likely the bottom 25% of the Big Ten. I can’t believe Illinois has not found a solution.

So many other schools have much nicer. I'm sure summer practices are not fun in a no-A/C venue. As compared to schools that have dedicated volleyball practice facilities with all the bells and whistles. Wonder if the gymnastics facilities situation had anything to do with Coach Spring taking the job at Alabama.

Wonder if the gymnastics facilities situation had anything to do with Coach Spring taking the job at Alabama. You nailed it. When Huff is packed and rockin', it's a great experience for the fans, the players, and the TV audience. But...for recruiting??? After they've visited Devaney or the new Ohio State facility? With Mom? Illinois VB has a first class coaching staff now. They've done a great job in developing "next tier" recruits and putting together very competitive and even "tournament dangerous" (see: Kentucky 2021) teams. But they're squandering their chances of getting to the next level by continuing to ignore this serious recruiting disadvantage for the top recruits. Check out the great new facilities for softball, baseball, and a few others. Illinois VB deserves better. And a new paint job isn't going to do it. Truth.

If Illinois doesn't soon have a plan to upgrade Illinois volleyball facilities, Tamas will eventually move on...taking a cue from Justin Spring now headed to University of Alabama (Women's Gymnastics). There are only 8 men's gymnastics teams left in Power5 conferences. I wonder if that sport is on the way to being eliminated? Might explain Justin's move.
