Brandi Donnelly, converted softball player and outside hitter at a relatively small school and whose only scholarship offer was to play softball at a D2 school, did ok as a libero. Jennifer Beltran was recruited as a libero and was similarly great. Caroline Barnes was recruited as a DS, and I think she will be a pleasant surprise as our libero for the next three years. Lily Barry would probably only play libero had she attended a large school instead of the school she attends. Much harder to predict which great athlete will be an effective libero than to predict which 6’3” hitter will transition to the college game. I trust Tamas ability to identify talent and to develop the talent he is able to persuade to attend UIUC. The trick is to get them here. IIRC, Brandi played club as a DS. Caroline will be senior when the 2024 class is a freshman. So someone to learn from her and then replace her the next year. I'm thinking Lexi Rodriguez, Gillian Grimes, Ava Falduto - PSAs who have always played DS/Libero at a high level. Barry will be a good DS as she attacks from back row very well. Clinic I attended recently there was a lot of thought that the serve receive had been neglected.(not just Illinois). The offense especially the middles was suffering because of bad 1st ball contacts. It sounds like the back row position will get more attention in recruiting in the near future.

He was a good guy, a great coach, and an awesome ambassador of the sport. Illinois and Minnesota were lucky to have him! I had forgotten he was Pitt’s first ever head coach for women’s volleyball too. $2,500 salary. My how things have changed! Glad the Illini got out of Kenney Gym, and I know some of you want an upgrade from Huff Hall. Is this article foreshadowing anything? ^Don't know if it's foreshadowing anything but that would sure be cool!

Did Allison ever set a match for Illinois? The thought randomly came to my head and I couldn't remember.

Did Allison ever set a match for Illinois? The thought randomly came to my head and I couldn't remember. I'm almost certain she never set an entire match at Illinois. She was injured right before the 2019 season started and we heard she was slated to be the starter before the injury. D Brown started instead and aside from a few sets where Tamas was shaking things up she ran a 5-1 all season.

Is it a coincidence both Burbage and Philpot are from the same general area of North Carolina, or is there some sort of North Carolina/Illinois volleyball connection at work?

Looks good on athletic talent and fundamentals. Cant wait for Coaches Reed /J Tamas to teach her. Now lets get a big OH commit!
