A lot of what was said - I agree. Yes, UF fan for nearly two decades, but also a coach K fan (so do have an anti-UNC bias). The 2022 outperformed expectations, but that is also where we differ —> reasonable expectations. A team loaded with freshmen and sophomores (helps that a big senior OH transferred in) won the SEC. I was hoping for a top 25 season but got closer to a top 10. I have only been able to watch a few ACC matches this year. GT was impressive, but feel Bergman carried a heavy load. Can they be as competitive without her next season (assuming she’s going pro)? FSU is decent, but not great. Miami is fair. Did not watch any of Louisville (I’ll add it to my homework folder), but being number 2 overall, they have be really solid. After those five there is a big drop in talent. Texas coming into the SEC will only solidify the conference to help it compete with the B1G. I do hope the ACC continues to improve - at least their top teams are there. I personally do not think Mary will be around by then, so a reasonable change in expectation would follow but I am hoping that their success continues. Potential sweet 16 opponent in Pitt this season is not an easy opponent whatsoever. However, Gators will have to get past a few other teams first and it’s the tournament - have to show up each round or get sent home. Appreciate that you came clean on where your bias is. We disagree on coach K but you knew that. That got settled last season so we won’t go there. I don’t think we disagree that reasonable expectations are appropriate. I feel like we had them for this season at UNC. We got a bunch of young talent, ranked 7th recruiting class in the nation. So my reasonable expectations were that they would be in the top 5 in the conference. We showed we could play lights out at times and then we broke so badly at other times. That’s where coaching is supposed to step in and smooth that out. But we didn’t and deserve what we got. You have Mary who is a no nonsense coach. We miss that kind of leadership for years now. Many talented kids come in and then leave because of lack of development. So our reasonable expectation is that this changes now. I think that SEC use to be a strong volleyball conference but this has changed significantly. Only two teams did anything in the past few years: FL and KY. Your team is not all freshman and sophomores as you claim. Two main OHs for you are senior and junior. You rely on freshman Stucky and we on Babic. Talent wise not much difference there. I did my homework and looked up their stats. Check it out if you don’t believe me. Your Lib is a junior and our is freshman. Big difference there not because of lack of talent but because of experience. Libs are probably even more important than setters and best Libs are typically upperclassmen. We have repeated ACC award winners. So talent has not been a problem for us. Execution has. So I disagree with you that after top 5 in ACC there is a drop in talent. NCSU also has talent but their execution is not the best either. I say that FL is not as good as rated because you have a much easier schedule in conference and coupled with SEC’s weird schedule should be ranked lower. Although I agree that tournament is weird and anyone could beat anyone it ultimately will show how strong FL is so I may stand corrected.

Bostic is in the transfer portal. This isn’t surprising since she was clearly not going to be running the 5-1 and they weren’t going to run a 6-2.

Guess she ignored her parents who told her to earn her time and "suck it up." She will not be the only non-graduating Heel in the portal most likely. UNC is going to target a setter transfer for depth, a middle, and most likely a DS on top of the OH they already have contact with.

I have a feeling we'll have at least one more freshman entering, and maybe/possibly a third. I originally said there would be 2 more based on what I was told....but after seeing some chatter I think one may be appeased currently. But, I wouldnt be shocked if 2 more did enter. Currently in the freshman class I would wager that Maddy May stays: Local NC kid who will have lots of playing time in the future. Babic: Stays. She has been given the keys to the team Shea: Stays redshirted and has been "promised" a big role on the pins next year Swain: Could go either way.....was not happy this season that she enrolled early to train and got very little time. Honestly she could have done just as well as some of our other pins....she I think is 50/50 because she would have to beat out a current player or one of the uber athletic freshmen coming in, but with Azaiah medically retiring, it does leave open the chance. Swift: Could go either way: Wants to play middle. was not happy with how coaches used her on the RS and basically has a limited role until her junior year (when Kaya is gone). If she wants to play immediately she may look. Mo: Had thoughts of transfering because none of the girls like her. During time outs, the team circled up and would sometimes leave her out.....however, she bought it on herself. As long as she is getting playing time as a starter, Dad is most likely making her stay at UNC at least another year. Bostic: We know is leaving; she wasnt beating Babic out. IMO Bostic is not Power 5 material yet. Granted, that may not be totally fair to say given she saw limited time and no one really was developing setters. Talented girl, but just not there yet IMO. At this point I think its safe to say unless something drastic happens I think we have at least 4/7 freshmen return and bring in the 3 VERY GOOD freshmen for 2023 fall. It will be interesting to see if there is a freshmen to sophomore jump over the spring given our lack of developing players.

I thought I saw somewhere that Safi Hampton was enrolling in the spring but I can’t find it anywhere… but it looks like Romani Thurman is coming in this spring as well. Happy to have a lefty OPP come in, and also to have a spring under her belt. http://instagram.com/p/Clw3-JNv8O9

Set, hit, defend, etc... The phrase to describe this class is "freakishly athletic."

So without reading the whole thread..Joe will stay? Have not heard otherwise....and his contract runs through June according to the website. Of course we would hope if a change was being made it would be now with all the openings occurring. Also still dont see a link for the AC position as several others have not either. Surely they arent going to keep Neelon and Zinger doing duties next year? We need an actual recruiter and seasoned AC.

It’s been hard for the last two weeks for all UNC sports. I know this is a VB only portal but it pains me that football and basketball keep losing. Women’s soccer got robbed in the cup game. I know though that better days are coming and hope VB is part of that. The new recruits will add athleticism and I hope our right side becomes productive. But I’m worried it will be lack of development again if we don’t bring a good AC that will put energy into the program.

On another note......Sad and detailed post about a SA's experience at Tennessee...see "Tennessee 2022" post from today.

On another note......Sad and detailed post about a SA's experience at Tennessee...see "Tennessee 2022" post from today. Not a surprise...Eve was toxic here at UNC. I can name one Ds/Libero she repetitively targeted and told her she wasn't worth her time or being there. Another player she told was disposable and that she wasn't needed anymore, nor wanted. Thats just 2 examples while she was at UNC. But because UNC was actually doing well, it was never questioned. Hope she never comes back to UNC. Feel for the girls she is doing this to now. Guess Joe has a thing for toxic assistants.

I'm looking for a team from the ACC to make it all the way. Louisville and Pitt are still looking good!
