I agree. Huge Kubik fan and I think she could have been 2nd team for her overall contributions but 3rd team is honestly understandable. I remember Sun had better stats than Kubik in 2019/2020 and was still given 3rd team honors both years. In general Nebraska doesn’t rely on a single player that much so it can be hard for players to have a high KPS (probably the most looked at stat). Sun absolutely deserved Second Team AA in 2019. She sooooooo did. I remember she was like hitting really well in the B1G too until that one Iowa match which fvcked up her hitting %. But still she deserved 2nd Team. |

Happy to see LMM and Caffey honored. It also dawned on me that Missouri had an amazing roster beforehand. LMM, Caffey, Deberg, Omazic and even the setter was no slouch either. Goes to show that coaching and team chemistry are huge factors. You can’t just throw a bunch of talent together and expect it to run itself at this level.

I’m very curious about the numbers of all these liberos being discussed, Roddy included. Both passing percentages and digs per set.
Also, unpopular opinion, but as great as CC, Otec, Barnes are, and all this discussion surrounding their placements, ect, I think Hampton is better and more deserving then all three. Just my opinion based off the eye test.

Not sure if people complaining about team success playing a role in individual awards have never seen individual awards in any team sport before. You can’t name a single individual award for a team sport where the teams success didn’t play a strong role. The Heisman is usually the best player on the best team. There’s only ever 5 players in the history of the MLB to win MVP on a team with a losing record. Only once has Super Bowl and once World Series MVP come from the losing team. It’s not a travesty that team success influences these awards. It’s the way these awards are built. I think the bigger complaint is using a single-elimination tournament to primarily measure "team success." imagine a double-elimination tournament similar to the CWS/WCWS. holy crap. |

Do we know where the selection committee/voters start when picking players? It seems to me they start with the teams that went deep in the tourney, making sure to have representation, and afterwards fill in the rest with stand outs in stat categories etc. For Neb, they were looking at a final four team that rotated between five pin hitters throughout the season, an ineligible first team caliber middle, and an impressive frosh libero. Zero percent chance a final four team gets shut out of the 1st Team, so if not Roddy, who? Bit of a throwback but what about Michigan’s team in 2012? Haha Ha - touche'! Maybe they hid behind the "they were unranked" excuse or something. |
