You have to remember that this was only Melanie’s second semester at Texas, she hasn’t had a full offseason to improve. I’m excited to see what she can do next season. I mean Jerritt obviously saw something in her to start her off the bat after only a couple weeks on campus. It would be so nice to be able to let her pass in any rotation too. She actually had the highest good pass percentage this year for Texas. I’m open to any lineup that gives the best chance of winning. If Parra plays herself into OH, then Skylar goes right and Molly starts Middle unless Singletary is off the charts better than Molly.

Molly has been really good and consistent and Jerritt calls her the highest volleyball IQ player hes ever coached (at least according to the commentators every time we play). I’ve watched some Singletary film and she’s really good but not better than Molly yet. Anything can happen between now and then though lol, as I say in regards to Texas, I’m not in the gym. If a freshman is going to play though, my bet would almost certainly be on Devin on the right in either a 6-2 or if Skylar and Melanie both play 3 rotations like this season.

I don’t think that singletary is going to beat out molly given that molly has the experience and of being in the middle and right so she reads the setter better than what a freshman would and molly has so many shots she could choose from. I would love for mel to play 6 rotations just because she seems more comfortable doing that. I also think that she is deceptively stronger than what most people give her credit for.

Wow, Logan just finished her 4th season. It seems like just 2 years ago she enrolled as a 17 year old. Unbelievable I watched some of her freshman year game against Wisc. They lost but she announced herself to the world in that game, the commentators were like what she’s supposed to be a HS senior and Wisc has no answer. I was at that match, could not believe she was 17. She played with so much confidence even then

Would O'Neal really need to be on scholarship at the end of the day given her root$ if it came down to it?

Would O'Neal really need to be on scholarship at the end of the day given her root$ if it came down to it? Not really lol but I think you have to give her one given her talent and what athlete wants to hear that they are not going to be given a scholarship because of their "roots"

I just meant if Texas found themselves in a position where the transfer market had a very valuable potential addition but they didn't have a scholly whether or not it could be a take one for the team (voluntarily) sorta deal. I have no insight into her situation, it just suddenly occurred to me after seeing 5 hours worth of Jermaine in match broadcasts lol so I mentioned it

Singletary has the potential to be better than Butler and that’s saying a lot. She does have the power and tools offensively to compete from day 1 but where she really lacks is her blocking. A redshirt season is what she will need to adjust to the game at the college level. I could be wrong and she could have been really working but from what I saw from her this season and in that championship game, she needs some work in that part of her game and I believe that’s what will separate Molly from Singletary.

Oh I agree. Singletary offensively is probably one of the best middle blockers we have recruited. She is good in front and behind of the setter and not only is she good, but she can pound the ball too. I agree that reading the setter and blocking is her achilles heel at this point. I think that redshirting her is best not only for the team in the future, but her development.

I think the most interesting conversation for this upcoming season is the setter situation. Do you guys think that he will stick with one setter, the 5-2, or the 6-2? Personally I would like to see the 5-2 because SKT is a bigger block up front, but she is offensive too so essentially we could have 3 front row hitters at all times. I don't think the 6-2 could work, even though we have the experience and depth to do it, is that one good passer could be on the bench and in games where one of our OHs are being targeted you might want to take them out of the passing pattern but that means that we would be passing with two and even if we get fleck or hampton that is still a big risk to get stuck in a rotation.

I doubt it would happen but it definitely made you think.
