I just don’t think there’s any way that happens. Molly has been really good and consistent and Jerritt calls her the highest volleyball IQ player hes ever coached (at least according to the commentators every time we play). I’ve watched some Singletary film and she’s really good but not better than Molly yet. Anything can happen between now and then though lol, as I say in regards to Texas, I’m not in the gym. If a freshman is going to play though, my bet would almost certainly be on Devin on the right in either a 6-2 or if Skylar and Melanie both play 3 rotations like this season. I would prefer to see Singletary and Devin RS. I think this puts a bit of pressure on youth talent once O’Neal, Eggleston, and Fields leave. Filling two of those positions with RS-frosh. I’d prefer a lineup that gets at least a couple of the freshman some game time.

Have a rotating door kind of deal. We have veteran and experienced setters do that won’t be the issue. I think having them play and maybe even start throughout the season, but have a set veteran lineup come tournament time would be beneficial for the 2023 team having gotten playing time and experienced this level of play instead of just redshirting the entire year. Who knows someone may have an off night and they’ll need to be subbed in.

And I think Kahahawai or Fields can be an OOS hitter for us on the right which we didn’t have from Phillips this year. And I think we’ll get more blocking from Phillips than Singletary in the middle, too. I can’t imagine that Kahahawai will be more terminal than Fields on the left, so I expect we will see her on the right. That also frees Fields up from passing if Kahahawai passes in Ro 1 for us instead.

If Texas doesn’t bring in any transfers I can see them running a 6-2, but I’ve been saying that for years and they’ve kept the 5-1. One big question to me is will Skylar Fields ever become a 6 rotation player for Texas? If the answer is no, I can see her moving back to RS for next year. Would they rather have Parra playing 6 rotations or Fields playing 6 rotations? I can see a 6-2 with Gabriel and SKT as setters, O’Neal and Phillips in the middle, Eggleston and Parra playing 6 rotations OH, Fields and Kahahawai playing RS, with Iosia playing libero. It will be interesting to see what happens because IMO I would be surprised if Halter comes in and plays a lot her first year. I think either Parra will keep her DS role or she will play 6 rotations (or Fields). I don’t think there’s anyone CURRENTLY on Texas’ roster that fills that DS role other than Parra. But aye Halter may come in and do excellent, but idk.

If I’m a Texas fan I’m really hoping she plays and plays well.

an athletic scholarship will always carry the honor and prestige, but how long before the NIL money takes the scholarship out of the equation from purely a monetary perspective?

She’s been phenomenal on the left but I think that if this season has shown me anything it’s that we need a terminator on the right side of the court. Phillips did the best she could on the right and I’m grateful for that, but she’s much more effective from the middle.

I feel like if we get fleck then a 5-2 is most likely the lineup we will see and if that is the case this would be my ideal lineup.
OH: Eggleston OH: Parra MB: Phillips MB: O’Neal L: Fleck Opp: Fields (DS: Iosia) S: SKT (in the front), Gabriel (in the back)
I think that iosia would be best suited as the ds for fields because then she could set the second ball if SKT takes the first contact. This would be mean we would have good defense in the right back for all 6 rotations. 2 passing outsides which after this season I think logan and parra were better when they passed to attack.
