I know Emma, Mari and Devin are the big names but I'm super excited to see Kenna in the gym. She has an ARM. I think she will sneak up on some folks!

At the beginning of this season, she was wearing a big knee brace. Later on the brace came off but she was not moving well at all. Even watching her in warm-ups toward the end of the year it looked like she was jumping with only 75% effort. It seems to have been a long slow recovery from her knee surgery. I think it was ACL repair? Hopefully we'll see her play in the fall. If she is ready for the fall and assuming everyone will be back we will have 4 MBs, 6 OHs, 2 S, 3 DS/L (not including if we pick up a transfer) that’s a lot of depth in every position so I fully expect players to be mixed in the lineup throughout the season. Especially for someone like logan who carries such a big load for us giving her a game or two to just relax and not have to worry about playing just to have her at full strength for the tournament will be key. I believe how you feel, but we’ll have to wait and see if Jerritt sticks to his ‘No subs, let them figure it out on the court’ mentality. I don’t remember him always being this way, but it has been for a couple seasons now. If I had a crystal ball for Madison specifically, I’d say go ahead and transfer.

I think that transferring would be in her best interest in getting playing time right away. We just have so much depth and as we have seen the past couple of seasons that tough serving and good passing are keys to the coaches and unless she is an amazing server and passer I do not see her making the starting lineup. As far as that mentality I have mixed feelings about it because you want some of your athletes to stay in there and figure it out, but I think that sometimes you have to take them out and put someone new in there especially depending on the magnitude of the game and that goes back to managing the personality of each player. I for one though that he would put Mel on the outside mid set 2 or even to start set 3 because fields was not impactful up to the middle of the 3rd set. I think the coaches were lucky that she started to heat up when she did because if she stayed flat the entire game then we definitely would have lost that game. I just think that we have so much depth this upcoming season that we have to utilize it, we have experience at every position.

I don’t remember him always being this way, but it has been for a couple seasons now. If I had a crystal ball for Madison specifically, I’d say go ahead and transfer. Jerritt used to have a pattern in recruiting and play time: 1. Two setters - one a junior and one a freshman 2. Most Middle Blockers redsirted 3. Let the best OH's start, with at least one starter injured part of the year, so there was always a 4th ready to go
Things that changed this pattern: a. Molly Phillips arrived and he couldn't redshirt her. If he did, she would have transferred because she didn't come from HS injured (like many MBs) and had the capability to start. Thus, she was MB3 when games were obviously decided.
b. Para arrived a year late because of transcript requirements. i.e. she had to go to HS in Texas one semester to qualify for entry into UT. That threw off his pipeline of OH. I mean it's crazy that she plays DS when she was recruited for OH. Also, she has the toughest serve on the team. So, she's in this weird position and future.
c. Having two setters that didn't work out: Ashley Shook and Riley Fisbeck
d. COVID and the bonus year. Traffic jam for all teams, which you think would make things equal, but in fact makes every team chaotic.

I was wondering if she was really expecting to see the floor? I know some athletes value being part of a winning program than actual playing time. They did not post anything about her on signing day so I am assuming that she will take on the role similar to Pierce, a walk-on practice player

I have a feeling Singletary redshirts. I would not be surprised at all if we see Skylar/Mel still filling out OH1 and Devin simply takes Molly's place on the right and Molly goes back to the middle. I wouldn't hate seeing Skylar on the right and Mel playing full-time on the left though. I think a lot depends on how much Mel improves this spring with a full semester to focus on development. Her hitting will likely get better, but by how much?

She had shown really bright spots in terms of her overall game and I think that having a full semester and summer to work on her line shot, hitting high hands, passing, and defense could work out in her favor.

Skylar is too good to split time with anyone. Regardless of position.

You have to remember that this was only Melanie’s second semester at Texas, she hasn’t had a full offseason to improve. I’m excited to see what she can do next season. I mean Jerritt obviously saw something in her to start her off the bat after only a couple weeks on campus. It would be so nice to be able to let her pass in any rotation too. She actually had the highest good pass percentage this year for Texas.
