Here's the real question going forward for the team - Does the team stay in a 6-2 with the return of Hames? It seems obvious that a 6-2 with Hames and Evans is better than with Orr, but will Cook revert back to a 5-1. After the match vs. Maryland, Batenhorst showed signs of regaining her power while Krause faltered slightly. Cook seems set on keeping Batenhorst played, so it will be interesting to see if the 6-2 goes back to Hames and Evans or Hames to the 5-1 (with Whitney playing 6 rotations?). Lots of options moving forward. If Coach Cook wants to retain both Krause and Batenhorst, then it seems a 6-2 system suits that. Ditto next year when they have even more frontline power coming in. Of course he will want to retain them, but not at the expense Of not putting the best line up on the floor. He is not going to choose a system to make the most people happy, he’s going to choose a system that puts the group in the best position to win.

The real question for next year is who takes Kubiks spot as the 6 rotation outside? I love Madi and the time she’s put in but I’m hoping she moves on after this year for the new wave of talent coming through. I could absolutely see a 6-2 again though with Reilly and Evans. But also wouldn’t be shocked on a Reilly 5-1. They’ve been the best defensive team probably several times not in a 6-2, so there’s that

He has to get their setting figured out, as that’s their biggest challenge by a mile. That decision will drive all the other decisions imo

I personally don’t see Orr leaving. Or Batenhorst. But especially not Krause….I would like to see Orr run the 5-1 consistently and be given the chance to prove herself. I’m not convinced Cook wants to rely on Hames knowing her time is up.

Coach Terry Pettit on his beliefs: "The first requirement for coaching is hope. The second is a setter, foolish in her passion."

To be fair to Orr she is doing well and is back after a couple of years off due to injury. She will get a fair chance and reps as all Huskers do in the great Big Red program. She has many positives going for her in terms of talent and the intangibles that come with size. I like her alot. She does some things on the court that are indicative of a high volleyball IQ. She's a good one and I'm glad she is a Husker. GBR!

He clearly didn’t want to have Hames in a 5-1 but with a great roster and the FF in Omaha, that could happen. I’m 100% whatever they do will be about winning and not about potential player transfers.

To be fair to Orr she is doing well No, she isn't. I don't wanna hate on anybody but Orr has has some truly terrible performances this season. Extremely inconsistent location, sets going past the pin or dying way inside, double palooza, spotty defense (though I actually think her backcourt defense is improving), avoiding the middle etc.

I’m hopeful she gets better and gets a chance in the 6-2 when Hames comes back. But if cook had ANY other options this past Sunday, Orr would have been on the bench.

I like Orr and would like to see her continue to get game reps. Coach will make the call to play her or not depending on what he sees in practice and games. (Also whether or not he has other player options.) I don't believe we have all the info regarding her health and that's understandable as we aren't in the room or at practices. I always like to keep in mind that the setter/hitter relationships are dynamic and evolving as each player has to adjust to the other's strengths and weaknesses. The doubles are a concern but then our serving has also been a concern until recent games. We have alot of potential as a team and things will work their way out as the season progresses in terms of setting, serving, and hitting. We are doing very well so far and our team is young. We will see how things go in the coming weeks. GBR!
