I guess we’ve learned nothing from everyone believing the wildly inaccurate Capri Davis rumors from a few years ago, but here we are. Some things will never change. That young women was a very energetic player and contributed a lot to the team. She was assaulted and was not happy with how the school handled the complaint. She left. IMO Naming her and bringing her up publicly again is a good example of what I refer to as going too far to try to make a point and by doing so, hurting people needlessly. But clearly, I do know everyone is fully entitled to express an opinion. I’m talking about the fact that the internet started a rumor she was pregnant by the Nebraska quarterback when she was not (nor was she ever even dating him) and volleytalk posters ran wild with it and many believed it. It was appalling to watch play out. And yet here we are now again where people read something on a volleyball message board so it must be true just like all the other times it’s been true. 🙄

This is my sentiment as well. Cook still toyed with the lineup through the Purdue game. It was tough to see how they would advance all the way to the last weekend, but the fact that they did has tended to remove the struggles/frustrations of the rest of the season prior (which, of course, is totally fair - having a runner-up trophy means the team did something very right!). I think we all expected a significant uptick in offense, clarity of personnel on the court, etc. Injuries, performance, and off-court happenings (transfers, for one) have made me realize this year is quite similar to last. No Hildebrand to gameplan and make adjustments in the tournament this year. I agree about Tyler from the stand point that his voice has not been in the room this year, and while Hunter replaced him on the letterhead, she was in the room last year. Its like the 2021 coaching formula was (Cook+Tyler+Jaylen+Kelly) and this year it’s (Cook+Jaylen+Kelly+VC). . . Without Tyler there is a void, no doubt about it, but Cook did win 3 national championships before Tyler came to Lincoln. So I doubt that the adjustments that Cooks makes with Jaylen and Kelly and company will be all that different than they would have been if Tyler had stayed. I’m wondering how much the setters miss their daily interactions and instruction from Tyler. We’ll see how it goes. 🏐

At some point I would love to see a 5-1 with Hames setting and Whitney as a 6-rotation opposite. I know that isn’t supposed to be Hames’s role this year, but I think it is the best lineup, and could really add a strong weapon with Whitney out of the back row.

I wonder how much all the “key to the kingdom” talk in the pre season along with publicly stating Nicklin’s reduced role affected Orr mentally to meet the demands of the program? Especially a national runner up program. I’m sure this has probably been talked about already, I’m just thinking out loud.

Number one recruit, all the talk, a legacy program, coming back from a major knee injury…it’s a lot of pressure on someone in her late teens/early 20s. Mentally, it’s a lot to go through. I hope Orr has a good support system.

In hindsight I think it would have been better to acclimate Orr back into the game and give her the opportunity to win the spot outright. Now the setting position is a 3 way competition between a player underachieving, a player who wasn’t recruited to start, and an injured player who wasn’t supposed to be in this role after heading it for 4 years.

She seems to have faced a multi-faceted challenge. I am hoping she has progressed so that setting can take top billing.

The dynamics on the sideline are not ideal. Jaylen used to be near the court and in constant communication. Now he appears silent on the end. Lots of weird dynamics in play. Cook constantly irritated and frustrated. I think things would be so much smoother with Hames' leadership on the court. I hope she is back soon. What kind of BS are you trying to start? Nothing about this is accurate other than your comment about Hames' leadership. If anything, Jaylen has been even more animated on the sideline this season. Cook has ALWAYS looked irritated and frustrated. I sit right behind the Husker bench and pay attention. You are way off base.

Is this the first year y’all have been paying attention to cook? His sideline demeanor is not new. Exactly. I watch him a lot, especially after points. I get a kick out of him. He has mellowed a bit but is a perfectionist. He wears his emotions on his sleeve. Whether the girls lost some respect for Jaylen or even Kelly, is adult behavior gone awry. It happens, unfortunately. I guess love or perceived love can show to not be so. Better now, than after marriage and maybe a few kids. Even than it happens quite regularly, with both sexes seeing who can find the right one for them. Let's put this crap to bed. There has never been and will never be any kind of romantic relationship between Jaylen and Kelly Hunter. Some dumbass comes on here with a clear agenda to stir up some drama and was wildly successful. Let's end it now, please.

If y’all listen to Cook during his Tuesday press conference or radio show, he has said Orr seems to be struggling with nerves. While you can blame this on a million things, in large part, she has not played college volleyball until the last 5 weeks and is playing in a 6-2 that really doesn’t give either setter a chance to get in a rhythm or feel comfortable….Cook said he was giving the keys to Orr, but he was not the one making a huge deal of it, that is on the media. Orr is a smart kid, she knows what Nebraska would be like when she signed her letter of intent. People didn’t like Hames her first year either…with how Cook talks about Orr, as recently as Tuesday he said she does things he’s never seen a Nebraska setter do, I still believe she can do what’s being asked of her. 6-2, 5-1, whatever. And if Hames wins the spot, or even Evans, so be it. But I believe in this kid and hope she can get past the mental battle she may be experiencing.
