Pregnancies last 40 weeks. But that's dated since the first day of the last menstrual period. There's typically 2 weeks between that and ovulation, after which there's about a day-long fertile window. Sperm can live in the uterus/fallopian tubes for 3-4 days, so the timing doesn't have to line up perfectly, but it has to be close. Then allow a day or so for implantation, which is when biologically speaking a pregnancy begins - that is, when it becomes detectable (implantation causes the secretion of bHCG, which is the hormone that pregnancy tests look for). TL;DR: Nobody's ever 1 week pregnant. The first day you could possibly test positive you will be at least 2 weeks pregnant. All of which is to say that for a normal gestation pregnancy, the actual sex would've occurred 38 weeks earlier. Which, for October 10th, is January 17th.

Rainbow always full of cool facts! Also ❄️ now in Madison. I had a doctor's appointment this morning, so I figured I'll get some exercise and ride my bike over to it. The ride home, about four miles each way, was into the teeth of the rain/snow/wind. I checked the forecast; none of that was there!

The GG/Shanel debate would be easily fixed if the NCAA let you do a two libero system lol

In general, though, the probability of *something* rare happening, of all the rare things that could happen, is actually really high. So you’re saying I should start playing the Powerball? The probability of someone winning the lottery twice in their life (considering rates of play) is actually reasonably high. I don't remember the actual number, and we're not talking mega-lotteries, but yeah. The probability of you winning the lottery twice in your life is infinitesimal.

Sorry for the double-posting...I thought I was in the reg. thread this morning (but was in the Mich vs. Wis match thread).
I'm glad the MJS is covering the Badgers this season.
Edit:
And the same story from the State Journal columnist. (Great final quotation!)

I believe you’re missing Lola Schumacher ‘24, unless she uncommitted. Also who knows what we get through the transfer portal in these coming years.

(I ended up going to dinner and then the UW men's hockey game with a sort-of in-law who I hadn't seen in quite a while, and that was great - though the hockey team got killed. So I actually haven't seen a second of the match. No spoilers, please! ) Iowa match, points by setter by set: Izzy on the court: 14-15, 13-8, 15-10; total 42-33 MJ on the court: 13-10, 12-7, 10-9; total 35-26 ----------- Points scored during the serve of server: Izzy: 7 points scored, 8 times serve lost Orzol: 5 points scored, 8 times serve lost GG: 6 points scored, 7 times serve lost MJ: 3 points scored, 7 times serve lost Franklin: 4 points scored, 3 times serve lost Liz G: 1 point scored, 3 times serve lost CC: 3 points scored, 3 times serve lost Boyer: 0 points won, 1 time serve lost Bram: 4 points scored, 3 times serve lost ----------- Sideout percents by server for the year in B1G matches (lower number the better) - note the change in the 'universe' of matches covered. Izzy: 0.500 Orzol: 0.613 GG: 0.556 MJ: 0.547 Franklin: 0.584 Liz G: 0.500 CC: 0.639 Boyer: 0.667 Bram: 0.429 Demps: 1.00 (one time to the line) AnnaMac: 1.00 (one time to the line)

I have yet to watch the full match, but curious about it, I did look at the video of the'uses' of Bramschreiber; and each one of them was different from the others:
- subbed in for Franklin in the second set, the second time through the rotation, with a good-sized lead; served and then stayed in all the way across the backrow, a classic turn as a DS.
- subbed in for Franklin in the third set, the first time through the rotation, with no lead at all; came right back out, a classic turn as a serving sub.
- subbed in for Franklin again, this time with a smaller lead, and stayed in through her serve and Crawford's subsequent serving turn; Crawford serving means GG is off the floor, so Bramschreiber acts as a sort-of libero for the half-rotation. Then subbed out after Crawford's serve ended and GG returned to the floor. (the time before Crawford didn't serve, Gregorski had subbed in for her.)
So more likely to stay in when 'protecting' a lead? and when Crawford serves? otherwise Franklin comes back to provide backrow offense?

That seems to line up well with what Sheff said. It sounds like she’ll be inserted wherever there is a need, and not slot in only one spot.
