Also, Istanbul was Constantinople. And old New York was once New Amsterdam.

Wasn't Orzol doing that too, or no?

Wasn't Orzol doing that too, or no? I think Orzoł attended an athletic high school, rather like a Polish IMG Academy. A little bit different.

She looks good. Interesting that they've kept this quiet since the November signing day.

She was afraid that if she announced it she'd lose out on training opportunities in Turkey. I understand that. It was more a comment on how tight lipped they've had to be for a very long time. Actually since the verbal announcement in May based on the article. Would figure a fair number of people in compliance at NCAA must have known. Maybe in the B1G offices as well? There were rumors going around. I guess I hadn't realize how far back in time the sources of them went.

I do remember Anna Newsome played in the A1 Italian league before coming to the University of San Diego, so I don't think playing on a professional team necessarily disqualifies you from playing in the NCAA? But I also don't really know the rules.
I'm excited to see Gulce. The last Turkish libero I remember playing in the NCAA was stellar (Ece Taner) so I have high expectations for her.

So does anyone know how old she is? 10-10-02, posted earlier. She's only 19, people. Basically a gap year. See Rob's posted video above. If you read the article, it's not random at all. She wanted to play collegiate level and her videos were sent to UW. It was she who started it. I'm not concerned about her age at all, I was merely curious. I know Europeans may not be the same age as their classmates just was wondering!

Guessing the NCAA views the relationship similar to recruiting services used by US club players, but like all things NCAA the rulings are less than transparent.

She's with Nomos (they're on VT) my original concern was she's with a professional agency, shining stars. but I asked someone who knows similar situations and they said they sign as "consultants" as to get away with staying amateur.

Given Gulce has been a silent commit, perhaps the badgers weren't ever that much in the market for the much anticipated libero transfer.
counting scolarships: mj, izzy, demps, orzol, jardine, wrobel, devyn, hart, smrek, crawford, gulce adds to 11.
Maybe one open? I'm assuming izzy has one. gregorski was given one last year, but don't know if that carries forward. Reed, boyer, annamac and gregorski looking for backrow playing time.
Lots of talent. Hoping mj can fill the key hole hilley leaves behind, and a couple smalls really rise up and take charge of the back row openings.

So basically she's a professional volleyball player, just not on paper. Sounds like some gray area that could get really messy for the NCAA.
