I agree here, but the real question is how many newcomers will come to the match and mansplain volleyball rules from 20 years ago gym class to the season ticket holders. 😂 Definitely attended a Washington at Washington State match with a friend not as familiar with the sport and he got ready to go at the end of set 3, the score 2-1. Friend...no...sit down. I had a man tap me on the shoulder at Women's U18 Hockey Worlds during second intermission Monday at LaBahn and ask me how many periods they play. These things happen; just glad you're here and enjoying the game.

The increases are proposed to be pretty significant: madison.com/sports/college/volleyball/itll-cost-more-for-season-tickets-for-wisconsin-volleyball-womens-hockey-in-2022/article_72698942-5327-5779-a72a-c2eb866f7044.htmlRelevant paragraphs: "Seats in the nine rows of new chairback seating behind the scorer's table and team benches will require a minimum $250 donation per seat on top of the ticket cost. Behind them will be a row of seating for people with disabilities that will be accessible via two lifts being installed. The addition of 369 chairback seats will result in a net loss in capacity of about 400 and the displacement of some fans, senior associate athletic director Jason King said." "More of the lower level of the Field House will be taken up by reserved seating that's being priced at $15, $12 and $10 per game. Most of them cost $6 per match in previous seasons. General admission seats will continue to be available in the north end of the arena and in the upper deck. Their cost is climbing from $4 to $6 per match based on season-ticket pricing."

They're going to take away my seat! Seventh row, behind the bench. Season ticket since 2014. I do not want a seatback, and I do not want to pay an extra $250. And I very much doubt any of the longer term seat holders immediately near me want that either. I VERY MUCH hope that crap gets voted down, but I'm not holding my breath. G D it!!

They voted to approve the price increase. Well, again, #@!%$!! I guess I'll have to see what they have planned for those who are part of "the displacement of some fans" before I decide what to do. But dang, this is certainly going to put a damper on my 'banner drop' experience. Not. Happy. (And I'm certain to not be the only one.)

Our old seats are also in the new chair back section.
I just hope they’ll let long-time / existing season ticket holders have right of first refusal for the new premium seats. If we’re used to sitting in that area and we’re willing to pay for the upgrade, I hope we get dibs over rando football fans.

If we’re used to sitting in that area and we’re willing to pay for the upgrade, I hope we get dibs over rando football fans. I'm not sure what this means, and I'm not sure how accurate it is or even can be: "The addition of 369 chairback seats will result in a net loss in capacity of about 400 and the displacement of some fans" IIRC those sections are somewhere around 16 to 19 seats wide (I'm 100% sure that section E is 16 seats wide). So three sections, nine rows, maybe 17 or 18 seats per gets you to something around 450 or 460 seats total. So the "net loss in capacity of about 400" can't be simply from the seatbacks and extra $$, unless they're assuming that everybody is going to say "hell no"; and even that doesn't equate to a loss of capacity. But I very much doubt there will be a 'refusal' that keeps me in section E. I hope like heck I'm wrong. (I also wonder if "friends and family" will get bounced from section E, in favor of more $$. A significant number of the seats in the rows they're talking about are family members, as well as visiting recruits. Very clear memories of a young Dana Rettke sitting three rows down from me in E watching matches, etc.)

They voted to approve the price increase. They techinically only advanced it to the full board: "Members of the UW Athletic Board's Finance, Facilities and Operations Committee questioned some of the increases but voted to forward the proposal to the full board for consideration on Friday." (from the article) So you've got Thursday to blow up some phone lines and email boxes should you choose. (Full disclosure: I have GA seats since I actually enjoy the upper deck and sitting with different friends at games so this will affect me very slightly.)

FWIW - and I assume not much - I already tweeted at Sheffield.

I wonder if the Fieldhouse's seat placement of the visitors' section behind the visitors' bench would end. I am proud that we do that (looking at you, Nebraska) and hope that isn't the case, but I bet ($250) that it is. They will probably put them in the diagonal section (which isn't a bad view, honestly). So help me, if the fatcats buy the seat licenses and then never show up I think I will strangle someone.
Actually, the highest price seats are going to be $20, not $15. So I would guess chairback people pay $250, and then $20 per ticket. Well, if they are targeting the older demographic, they are doing an excellent job. Also, we will now have the second highest ticket price.

While they are doing all the shuffling of seats, could they please do a better job of identifying the reserved seats? I liked the names on the seats. Absent that, how about bring back a sticker that says reserved for each of those seats. I am so sick of throwing people out of my seats, and then hearing from them a response like "well can't you just sit there" and pointing in the direction of some other seats. I am in the last row of the reserved seats. They are the ones that "should just sit there."

So help me, if the fatcats buy the seat licenses and then never show up I think I will strangle someone. During NCAAs last season, before i had even received the email telling me where my not-great seat would be, there were DOZENS of "premium reserved" center court seats already for sale on StubHub. And I don't mean somebody who bought a pair and then remembered they had a wedding, etc. I mean 16 seats of a 19 seat row, all for sale. At the same time, I'm over on the corner sitting next to Hilley's grandmother. People are buying center court on StubHub and Hilley grandmother is off in the corner. Should not happen that way.

Here is the new seating chart. Also looking at where I sit (and also the other corner section) they appear to be rearranging the section letters. I was in the last seats of section T, which now shows to be in U.

Ah, when long suffering fans meet the costs of success. I certainly started watching volleyball because it was a ridiculous bargain, so I can empathize. That's what got me hooked to the point I would pay these proposed prices if I lived in Madison. Then again, I don't have a family, so just paying for myself wouldn't cost me as much.
I'm sure they want volleyball to perhaps be revenue generating at UW. Until there is some revolution in how volleyball and other sports are supported, that means fans eventually will have to pay. A common model is to reserve high priced seating for high paying customers. This, along with the shared space with Camp Randall, is probably trial balloon to see how that model goes.
I can't blame them - when do you try this if not after a national championship? But it's steep and sudden. It could backfire - but they can't go back on the seat backs. Once they're there, they are there. They aren't coming out. Maybe they are simply trying to defray the cost for one year? I hope with Wiswell it doesn't mean that only fat cats with little skin in the game get the seats and don't fill them.
I have heard many people at the field house complain about the lack of seat backs at the field house. I normally have someone's knee in my back most of the match when I'm not standing. The problem is that seat backs take up space. They cost money to put in. And if you are going to compete long term with the Nebraska's of the world, someone has to pay.

I am bronze, so my guess for my ticket price is $10-12. If Gold is $20, and Silver is $15.
