But still better safe than sorry by having another DS training throughout the backrow. If you think about it, all of the DS’s are starters with no current backups besides the pin players playing 6 rotations Having another walk on DS may have helped on that road trip and if we didn't have three setters, than maybe Matias would have helped fill that role. Does it say anything that Cowell wasn't used to replace Alexander? Is Alexander ahead of Cowell offensively and defensively or are they giving Alexander reps to get her ready for the future? Matias is a baller, as she red shirts, she will likely take the keys from Lang. Her defense was good but now her skills are that much more advanced. She will likely be a staple on the beach team too. She is learning to be patient and absorb as much as she can. Coach Rob will expect her to be ready to go next season and beyond. Lang will be a good mentor, she is aggressive and hates to lose, has a high VB IQ, and is all about the team.

Also give us 3 front row attackers at all time. You add potential for BIC, you could have a situation where the setters will have 4 offensive options at all time. Riley can already hit the BIC. I’m sure Caylen will spend extra time working on it too. Who know? Hopefully one of the incoming recruits will be able to add that to their reportoire and give us added options offensively.

I think it’s possible to run with Akana and Caylen as opposites but Stella or Tali will have to be solid enough to make moving Alexander worth it

Do International recruits sign as well?

Do International recruits sign as well? She’s following Baxter and the women’s VB account so I’m hoping the chance is high. If her passing and defensive game is anywhere close to Wagoners, the team will really be in good shape. Hopefully Mili Sylvester’s commitment is hush hush because that’s just what the staff wanted, even though Maddie announced early out of nowhere.

She is a primary passer on her country’s national team and I believe is the #2 offensive weapon. If you’ve seen her videos, she plays defense and pass like a libero/DS. Her only drawback is her size(5-10). She has very good all around skills to make up for the lack of size. If we don’t get Tali, I would more than happy to land `Julia Thelle. She would be a coup for both our indoor and beach team. She is in the mold of Stella Adeyemi(short and powerful) but her passing/backrow play is ahead of Stella.

Both Maddie and Miliana are 2024 so there is time for Miliana to make up her mind. Maddie probably committed early to get all this recruiting stuff out of the way and just concentrate on her skill development and helping Sierra Canyon win championships. I recalled Kate Lang committed before the start of her Jr. year(I think) so Maddie committing early is not unusual.

It used to be that, coaches offer more than they have scholarships available knowing that they are not getting everyone. In that case first come first served I guess. It's to the players' advantage to verbally commit as early as possible. There have been situations where players verbally commit early only to be swept away by another program. All depends on if you think its poaching or not.

Someone got hit right in the head lol Tomorrow’s headline……”Wahine volleyball team lose key starter to head injury”. It looked like Chandler with her “one legging on” attire. I know Kate also dresses like that on occasion but it looked like Cowell got bombed on the head.

Well deserved recognition. I was hoping Kate would get this award after having a solid performance this past weekend. Am happy for her. She’s come a long way since August. Sure, there is still room for improvement, but her overall game has gotten much better vs how it was at the beginning of this season. What especially pops out for me is her back row defense. I’ve been ~floored~ by that aspect of her game. And I like that she’s getting to be more offensive up at the net. Congrats to Kate! Her hard work is paying off and is surely appreciated. The same goes for all the girls.
