I figured Jacobs would be favored for her passing over Murray. I thought the same thing. I haven’t seen Jacob’s since her USA team matches, though. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see Murray on offense and Jacobs on defense.

A couple of messy sweeps today for Blue over Old Dominion and Northern Arizona. Only the NAU match was streamed, some notes:
- Is Scottee Johnson 100%? They ran a 6-2 with Dowd getting the majority of assists - Jess Robinson was unstoppable, recording 20 kills and only 2 errors between the two matches. She pretty much bailed the team out of S3 against NAU and held her own from the service line and back row. Senior season looks good on her. - Jacobs had some great swings today on offense but was eaten up on serve receive. Beals mercifully subbed in at DS against NAU in S3; this spot remains a glaring weakness - After a clean opening match against ODU, Mruzik made a bunch of errors against NAU in match 2. Let's chalk that up to early season rust. She still managed 15 kills and 19 digs; typical money performance. - Pertofsky has been pulled from the service line. She has not found her groove yet early in the season; hopefully that weapon returns in time for conference play. - Maddie Dowd has always had great location on her sets, I just wish she were 3" taller! - Nice to see Nyambio get her debut, the Rosen's played around with a number of different roster combinations today - Dixie State Utah Tech tomorrow night with no stream, sadly
Go Blue!

Congrats to Kendall Murray tonight with a career high 21 kills, hitting .514 in a 3-1 win over Utah Tech. I guess that answers the question at L2.
Michigan got pushed by Utah Tech in the first two sets before finding their groove. Scottee Johnson sat this one out as Maddie Dowd doled out 49 assists. Hoping Johnson recovers in time for the B1G season. Go Blue!

What is the probability that someone will post the week 1 match between the Michigan Wolverines and the "Utah Tech" Trailblazers on you tube after its conclusion? I'd really like to watch this particular match, but it's going to be on Espn+. Utah Tech gave them all they could handle. They are scrappy. I was impressed.

University name changed this year. They're in their third transition year from DII to DI. But back to this match... Michigan came out flat (like it appeared they did in the other two games this weekend), but battled back. S2 and S3 were tight but S4 was much more like one would expect. Ultimately, Utah Tech was clearly the second-best team at the tournament. It should be fun to watch how they do this season in the WAC. I'll have more thoughts on the full weekend after I re-watch the NAU game. Interesting to see the in-game experiments on OH2 play out. We saw Jones and Hallgren Friday night, but it was allllll Murray Saturday. The offense was a 6-2 at times Friday, but today was all Dowd as well. Hope we get a Rosen Report this week and hear a little bit more about those two games that weren't broadcast. Looking forward to the team hitting the floor in Cliff Keen this weekend (even though the website doesn't have any stream links at this point. Hopefully we'll be able to watch. Anybody have any ideas about that??).

Michigan needs to bring their "A" game versus Toledo in an early Friday match next weekend, after the Rockets won a tournament at ASU this weekend! Avoid the upset and go on!

Alright, finally got a chance to sit down and watch the NAU match. Took a while to figure out my EPSN password.
Anyways. Wolverines running the 6-2 with Dowd and Johnson... Seems to me like this might be more than just an opening-weekend experiment. Dowd ran the offense with better efficiency than Johnson, but as has been noted here before, she lacks the size to play against a physical Big Ten. However, the offense ran SO MUCH BETTER with her orchestrating things... Can Michigan afford NOT to play her? I for one don't think so.
The first set turned when Jacobs came in for the OH2 role and replaced Hallgren. All elements were better from the former Bruin than the former Trojan. She didn't play Saturday (and without a broadcast Saturday one can only guess to the reason. She was super taped up and the broadcast mentioned a back injury Friday night), so we'll see what her status is against Toledo Friday. She was consistent on offense and seemed to have a really heavy attack that gave NAU fits.
It should be noted, set two's big run (7-0) came with Johnson running the offense. Jacobs was a difference-maker from the get-go, and quite frankly this set gave me the confidence that the 6-2 is a long-term play. The block was extremely physical -- Pertofsky/Robinson/Mruzik with Dowd + Murray/Boney/Jacobs with Johnson was a very strong combination -- and the defense was steady throughout.
Of note: Humphrey came in to serve for Jacobs in S2 and Beals came off the bench as the first DS for Jacobs in S3. Even when she wasn't clicking in the back row, she was very smart playing up front. Nyambio getting the chance to get in could be a difference maker in the long run. After seeing just one set with her on the court I'd be interested to see her with Dowd. There seems to be elite-level athleticism and playmaking potential.
Friday should be interesting. Toledo is coming off a very good ASU Tournament and has some expectation behind this season. Morehead State had a less impressive opening weekend, but is also undefeated at 2-0. Still no links for the weekend on the schedule as of Tuesday afternoon. Does anyone have any inside intel on coverage? It'd be nice to get all games streamed but we all know with football on Saturday that won't be the case. Hoping to at least spend my Friday afternoon off to watch on BTN+. Maybe a new Rosen Report will drop with the information.
So anyway, there are most of my reactions nobody asked for. Can't wait for this weekend.

The Rosen Report is back again. I know I said it before, but these not being live throws me off every time. I didn't see it yesterday/last night and happened upon it this morning. Anyway, nothing too revealing after the first week. I also noticed that the links are now live for this weekend. There is a stream scheduled for each Michigan game, which is a welcome surprise. Now I just hope we have a halfway decent broadcast instead of what has been our normal.
