Preview:
With the graduation of five players, no returning super seniors and only two confirmed incoming commits, there are plenty of question marks regarding Michigan's roster heading into the 2022 season. The biggest loss is Paige Jones, whose career ~3.63 k/s leaves a big hole to fill. If ever there was a season to bolster your lineup with transfers, this is surely it. Although Michigan is not likely in the mix for any of the biggest names, there is plenty of talent to go around currently in the transfer portal. Outside of Jones, the rest of the starting lineup returns. Mruzik will be asked to carry the bulk of the offensive load, with hopes of continued improvement from the rest of the starters. Blocking improved greatly in 2021, but passing continued to be a major problem. Mruzik and Murray especially need more consistency on first contact for Blue to compete in the B1G.
Questions:
- Who gets the start at OH2? Murray seems the most likely candidate but this spot is very much up for grabs. With only 3 OH's listed on the roster, this seems ripe for a new arm or two out of the transfer portal. There is already potential action along that line. EDIT: Welcome Allison Jacobs!
- Any help coming for the back row? The team is short on smalls; this is another spot that should be an easy fill out of the portal.
- Do either of the freshmen see significant play time? Simmons is intriguing and there is a spot for her to take if she can earn it. Nyambio was featured in the Under Armour All American match and could bring some much needed offense to the middle.
