Also curious, how long did it take for MBH and Larson to develop into solid passers or were they always really reliable there? Larson always was. MBH was a late bloomer in terms of passing THAT was my point way back when. Not always a stellar passer but a bomber. However her passing has vastly improved. Glad you agree.

So based on performances (and non-performances) in the VNL what would an objective depth chart of our rostered NT look like? S: Carlini, Poulter, Hancock, Gray L: JWO, Hentz, Courtney, White MB: Ogbogu, Akinradewo, Washington, Stevenson, Tapp, Butler, Dixon, Rettke, Adams OH: Larson, MBH, Robinson, Frantti, SWP, Bajema, Plummer, Courtney, MKR OPP: Drews, Thompson, Lowe, Reed, Cuttino Tapp is way too low

I would put Krob ahead of 2022 MBH.
Maybe otherwise once home girl gets some rest

But for sure KRob. Tapp>Stevenson every day. You could argue Rettke over Butler and Dixon but… eh. Opposite is hard to tell between Drews and JT until Poulter can start setting behind her again… JT is the better player to me but Drews fits out system better.

I don’t think MBH’s offense is there anymore y’all. I’d put her behind Frantti/SWP, tbh.

Also curious, how long did it take for MBH and Larson to develop into solid passers or were they always really reliable there? Larson always was. MBH was a late bloomer in terms of passing Agreed. Larson was very good coming out of college. And you could see how she would be good for the national team when she first burst out into the scene. As mentioned, playing aside Tom, Sykora probably helped. In terms of passing, you never know - people like Hildebrand and Hodge (and some others that have come and gone) passed exclusively in college yet struggled sometimes internationally to be consistent passers. I think it helped (for some reason) that Larson played so much in Russia (where her job was probably to pass everything while in Kazan). But anything is possible, watching MBH at Illinois - didn't expect her to blossom the way she did. Also, Kim Hill was a non passing middle/opposite at Pepperdine, and look what she turned into. I do think we have been spoiled with solid passers from Logan Tom (for so long), and then Larson. The way they both could stabilize the lineups was underrated. Now, with the new crop of outsides, the Tom/Larson type outside is gone ... but even someone like Robinson (who kind of fits their mold) just doesn't have the commanding game they have. Nonetheless, USA system does rely on very good passing outsides, so hopefully they can get that going - otherwise, they're vulnerable. Setters, offensive middles and opposites seem to always be available. The reliable outside is harder to find. Luckily for the USA, we've had outsides who have been at the top of their position for so long.
