Hentz>Clark I also believe Lanier deserves an invite. I would like to see USA continue to invest in Leah Edmond as well. She can be great with the right training. I know it's a tall task, but I wish Simone Lee would get another chance. Loved watching her play In college, Hentz was definitely greater than Clark but I have no idea what Morgan's training is like since she isn't playing professionally. Idk what her aspirations are. Clark is training and developing in Germany, who knows where she'll be when she comes back. But honestly it's mostly just who's going to be the B team libero/backup to Justine. Leah needs to go pro lol but I'm not sure if she wants to. Simone is doing decently in Germany I think? Maybe she'll get another chance. Pretty much... it should be Fleck..... but.... well... she's throwing that shot. I saw Leah post her shoulder is 100% now... so maybe she'll try overseas.

The extra (5th) year of eligibility doesn't help any college athlete's case for making the 2024 roster. I thought it was a bad idea for both Yossi and for Dana.
You're just losing a year of development playing against pro-level competition to stay in your comfort zone (okay, maybe also finishing your masters degree) while not developing as quickly by playing the vast majority of your repetitions against/with inferior players. And/or just getting subbed out in the back row.
You could say the same for liberos, because playing against elite velocity and angles that you'd find at the pro-levels is different than playing against most college attackers. But it's just so hard for American liberos to get worthwhile jobs overseas.

The battle for the middle spot should be interesting

Pressley was a long shot for 2024 anyways imo.... I think it will have a bigger impact on players like Samedy and Rettke.
Also Fleck staying at Texas this year... She could've done AU... moved to Europe for 23/24... and been in contention...
now? idk..

What role would Samedy have on the NT though? I mean JT and Drews are both incredible and already have one olympics under their belt. JT said she wanted to stay at opposite too didnt she? I mean if it was truly best for the team, she could move back left but she is just ridiculous from the right pin.

Why is the greatest NCAA player not on this list? You know the first 5 time first team All American and reigning Player of the Year? What are her plans anyway? Did she sign? she’s probably not on the list because she’s not yet on the national team. She’ll likely be at some point, but she chose to stay in college (and get that fifth AA honor) before going off to play professionally and join the national team, if offered, which she likely will. Patience is... a virtue. How quickly we forget Dana played nearly the whole 2019 VNL with the “A” team and played the Olympic qualifier that year as well. She should have been in the Olympic training camp if the Spring season didn’t overlap the 2020VNL….

How did playing the NCAA season hurt her prospects? Should she have left Wisconsin to play those 2 janky Pan Am events and an extra 2-3 months in Europe more than what she’ll play starting in a couple weeks? Right now she is in the top 3 USA middles.

"janky"... aka two international level events... (which doesnt even count training in the USA gym for the whole summer) did staying at Wisconsin help her serve? no did her speed to the pins improve? no that could be the difference between being on the WCH roster.... and being at home

Which is why zero top NCAA players left school to launch their pro careers. I mean it was darn near unanimous among top seniors to stay in the NCAA and improve their games (you would have a point for OH or OPP’s not progressing)

Ashley Evans, for example, was there from like april to september. (other than the times the NT was away) That was valuable time for her to make her name known.... look at Tiffany clark too. (Hentz was there when healthy too) none of those players are dana rettke though... none of them (minus Brionne I think) had NT experience. Middle blockers have the biggest adjustment to the international game, cause its so much faster. Dana staying at Wisconsin for a 5th year did not improve on any of the skills that she needed to.

Well, I’ll respectfully disagree on the lack of improvement in her game this past NCAA season….and that middles have a greater adjustment to make to the international game than OH’s or OPP’s.
She’ll have 3-4 months in Italy this spring to show where her game sits at this point.
