Talk about an anti-climatic end to the Big West season. Yuk, before conference the top 4-5 teams looked like there might be compelling race to teh last weekend. SB shut the door on that story with the Davis loss. The only thing left is balancing the books, can we just do a do-over and have a conf tourny instead in LA for some more interest? Instead of having 227 people show up in the SlumberDome for senior night while drunk on Turkey leftovers and stale Champaign. Talk about killjoy two years in a row from SB.
Before getting to the conference post-season, and Hawaii's post-season, let's just ring up the awards.
Robyn, COY, as the Hildebrand was gone ...after the first 3 games. Walters last gasp dissapeared as fast as Poly loses 10-2 leads. & Welch, well Welch needs to figure how to win games that actually GET SB to play for a title! Vargas-Proster was an early candidate, but Full fell on hard times.
Robyn simply builds up teams from beginning to end, year after year. By all rights, they might be a 3 loss champion, but no, they end up again as a dominant team. Nobody puts the jigsaw puzzle together any better.
The POY technically is close and debatable between Igiede and Dvoracek. Dvoracek had that tour de force match in Poly, but that was so long ago. She's the best server, she plays solid all around, but she also plays for a 5 loss team, and Igiede will be 3rd or 2nd team AA. Dvoracek might sneak into 3rd team aside from HM. For me, I can't choose, but to the winners go the spoils.
so now for Hawaii's fate.
Can't see BYU or USC sneaking into hosting 1st two rounds. Leaves San Diego, Stanford, Oregon as hosts.
so...
could see Hawaii vs. USC in San Diego, which would be interesting to get that tie0breaker.
Hawaii could end up in Palo Alto, but I think LMU is a lock to go there as they have nowhere else to go, so don't see Hawaii going there either, My bet is BYU vs. LMU. Still Hawaii could go to Palo Alto vs. BYU or ?, but doubt it. WOuld they make LMU or Hawaii a 4 seed there? Yikes, would be the most loaded 1st round site.
If Oregon, again I can see BYU v.s Hawaii.
I don't see Washington going to a Pac-12 site or San Diego (see USC or even UCLA if UCLA sneaks in).
so that's the probable match-ups Hawaii fans
BYU or USC is the most likely 1st round match - ouch!!. Maybe a longer-shot is LMU (will get in) or UNLV (if UNLV goes to San Diego or Palo Alto). UCLA (has to beat USC this week) or Pepperdine (stumbling & likely played their way out, but you never know).
so in the following order>
USC BYU UNLV LMU
then the field, make your bets
NIVC? teams will qualify, but does anyone want to actually play in that thing? Beach is a bit banged up and has too many crossover key Beach VB players on the team (interesting though don't see Savanna Chacon listed on the roster, assumed she'd be playing alongside sis) for it to make sense to commit to potentially play 5 more matches. Heck, the NIVC now conflicts in part with getting wound up on portal machinations as well. Poly doesn't have that much cross-over, but again not sure the point and the travel and conflict with finals where the programs might not be all that thrilled. I have no enthusiasm for those exhibition matches at this stage. Irvine, that's their gig, and no Sand program, so most likely. to each their own

I might be the only one that would like to see LBSU's season extended by playing in the NIVC. During today's presser with Tyler he did not even mention any post season play opportunities so maybe the university does not want to pony up the extra cash to play in this tourney.
Savanna Chacon does not play beach volleyball so she will be full time in spring development with the indoor team.
Hawaii is peaking right now so they wi be a tough out in the tourney. As long as they do not play a top ten team I think they have a shot to advance.

It is time for the Wahine to get pass the 2nd round, and play in the Regionals. Not really expecting the Wahine to get pass the Regionals, at least not this year. Just want them to experience it, so the players know and learn, what to work on to win matches in the Regional and get to the NCAA Semi-Finals. One step at a time. Win 1st round match, done. Win 2nd round match, not accomplished yet, needs to be accomplished.

If the BWC teams do not watch out, it will be the Wahine, then everyone else. Robyn is recruiting players to not only win the BWC, but to be able to win a National Championship. Whereas, the rest of the BWC teams are recruiting players to just be able to win a BWC Title. There is a BIG difference there in talent level. The other BWC teams need to up their talent level, not just bring in talent to win a BWC Title, they must start bringing in talent that would allow them to be extremely competitive in the NCAA Tournament, if not, possibly win a National Championship. If the other BWC Teams do not do this, the Wahine Team and Robyn Ah Mow will leave them in their wake.
