Coach Shondell is very loyal to his upperclassmen. I think that it’s Schemerhorns job to lose. I think that once the Big Ten schedule starts, he may switch it up to Brown. Like when Otec played the beginning and then Hornung played more towards the end. Or am I remembering that wrong?

You didn't get it wrong. 2019, Otec started as libero and had a really good string of matches defensively but Purdue was struggling in serve receive, especially since they were running Newton and Cleveland as 6-rotation hitters. The Nebraska match at Lincoln in October sealed the deal -- Otec became the DS for the 2nd OH, Cleveland was shifted to a 4-rotation OPP with Schermerhorn playing the other 2 rotations, and Hornung wore the bro jersey for the rest of the season. Brooke Peters was another upperclassmen that got the libero jersey at the start before losing it to Haben one season and then Hornung during another, though she'd eventually win it back in the 2018 season.

I would not be shocked to see Dave stay with Schemerhorn until Conference schedule starts but don't think it will last much beyond that.

http://instagram.com/p/ChSo6HiOe3t Did anyone go to the first scrimmage? Don't be shy -- tell us what you saw! Love to see Chinn passing. During the spring, she was playing OPP but I wonder if they move her back to the left and use Kich at OPP? And whether Hudson beats anyone out to see the court or will she be a DS this season in the same way we used Evans in 2014 and Alexa Smith in 2015?

I’ll post about the scrimmage when I get some time in the next couple of days.

I have only really been following Purdue closely for about 3-4 seasons. With that being said, I've gathered my fair share of journalistic intelligence on this group, and feel like there is a bit too much "hate" going into the season. Of course, I understand that they lost last year's team, almost entirely, but it's not like the starters for 2022 are a bunch of freshmen and sophomores. They seem to have a lot of experience - whether they were a part of last year's mold or not. Can anyone with more knowledge of this group help me see why there are so many naysayers out there right now? I think the Trammell transfer hurt, but it seems they have a lot of upperclassmen to fill in where they lost out. Just my take. I also listened to the Purdue podcast - can't think of its name off the bat - but Shondell seems to be pretty encouraged by what he's seen so far. And if I know coach-speak at all, I don't hear much of it from Purdue. They are typically pretty authentic with their words around there.

Outside fans, like me, feel like they will take a big hit with all they lost. That said, I also feel Shondell will keep them relevant in a brutal conference, just with a lower ranking to start! I hope Wisconsin can actually beat them this season, but I will never take that for granted with their current staff!

Just saw Prepvb's top 15 recruiting classes for 2023. Imagine my surprise when I saw Purdue's highly touted five reduced to four as they failed to realize that their own number one ranked player Chloe Chicoine decommitted from Penn St months ago! Her choice to make Purdue her home is hardly a secret. As a result Penn St is ranked #4 while Purdue comes in at #9. As a paying subscriber should I not expect a little more attention to detail?

PrepVolleyball has become a joke. The fact that they don't know where their #1 ranked recruit is committed tells you all you need to know. 😞

If this year's model plays great defense - like we're accustomed to - then they'll be in every match. The big question in my mind is who will do the scoring? Can one or two of these pins establish themselves as big time scorers who can get work done at the big moments? Gonna be very interesting.
