I have only really been following Purdue closely for about 3-4 seasons. With that being said, I've gathered my fair share of journalistic intelligence on this group, and feel like there is a bit too much "hate" going into the season. Of course, I understand that they lost last year's team, almost entirely, but it's not like the starters for 2022 are a bunch of freshmen and sophomores. They seem to have a lot of experience - whether they were a part of last year's mold or not. Can anyone with more knowledge of this group help me see why there are so many naysayers out there right now? I think the Trammell transfer hurt, but it seems they have a lot of upperclassmen to fill in where they lost out. Just my take. I also listened to the Purdue podcast - can't think of its name off the bat - but Shondell seems to be pretty encouraged by what he's seen so far. And if I know coach-speak at all, I don't hear much of it from Purdue. They are typically pretty authentic with their words around there.
Likely just due to losing the majority of their starters, and the remaining players being 'unknown' to outsiders.
Personally, I think Purdue is getting slept on. There might be a bias here, but their returning pins (Ellis, Chinn, Koch) have what it takes to be competitive. The 'new' setter has been training next Bush for years now and we know Dave normally has strong defensive teams.
Schermerhorn at libero still scares me though... I'm gonna approach her like I did Newton and hope she proves me wrong lol.

And if I know coach-speak at all, I don't hear much of it from Purdue. They are typically pretty authentic with their words around there. I have to agree with the others. I don't think it's "hate" as much as it is "doubt" because of the unknown or untested factors of some of the players. Replacing 2 Super Seniors and 4 Seniors who've regularly contributed to Purdue's success for quite a few seasons can be tough and I think thats why people outside of the Purdue fans aren't as confident. Part of that comes from people not really knowing what Ellis/Koch/Chinn are capable of. They've been around the gym for 3 seasons but haven't been mainstays in the starting line-up. Each has been used based upon who the opponent was and what that player could bring to the court. But, I mean, no one knew what Caitlyn Newton was capable of until her junior season where she became a 6-rotation player and started carrying a heavy load after the graduation of Atkinson. Annie Drews didn't emerge as Purdue's go-to until her junior year also. Coach Shondell and company have a way of continuously developing players behind the scenes to step into their role when the time comes. I think Ellis is always growing as an attacker, Koch is a gamer who has looked good hitting from both pins, and Chinn has all the skills to play 6-rotations if they need her to. Some of the other questions are the back court. Otec and Hornung were probably the best two players the Boilermakers have had since the days of Cramer/Fox/Neil. But we know Purdue can train some amazing defensive kids. The question is when they'll be at that level needed. If this team can pass, Colvin is going to get a lot of balls. Renner, if healthy and aggressive, could be the X-factor. It's one thing to have upperclassmen on your roster and another to have actually developed them over their time in your gym. This team is going to produce results. They have the coaching and the pieces; it's a matter of gaining the experience and belief.

http://instagr.am/p/ChSo6HiOe3t Did anyone go to the first scrimmage? Don't be shy -- tell us what you saw! Love to see Chinn passing. During the spring, she was playing OPP but I wonder if they move her back to the left and use Kich at OPP? And whether Hudson beats anyone out to see the court or will she be a DS this season in the same way we used Evans in 2014 and Alexa Smith in 2015? I would think we see Hudson doing more than playing DS.

I would think we see Hudson doing more than playing DS. She's certainly going to compete for a starting position, but as Coach Shondell pointed out during the first episode of this season's Dig City, she has to adjust to playing against not only collegiate players but also B1G competition. We can all agree that she's going to be a feature of the Boilermaker line-up but from the start? I don't know. Also, I think Coach Shondell will honor his three senior pin hitters for their hard work and loyalty to the program through the years. He speaks very highly of them and their dedication. I'm not saying, by mid-season, Hudson isn't capable of earning a spot in the front row. But Ellis, Chinn, and Koch won't be easily unseated either.

I don’t think anyone is “sleeping” on Purdue. Nobody is saying they aren’t talented or couldn’t cobble together a strong season, but that’s different than people having the EXPECTATION that they will be a very good team. I’m just not sure why you think people should just expect essentially a brand new team to be great? All of those pins you mentioned are sub .200 players despite not being the focal point of the offense and none of them played backrow. That, on paper, is not a competitive OH trio. Can they be better than that? Sure, but I don’t think it’s hateful to wait and see re this new team rather than just giving a bunch of new players the benefit of the doubt. Especially when so many teams return multiple proven producers.

Just saw Prepvb's top 15 recruiting classes for 2023. Imagine my surprise when I saw Purdue's highly touted five reduced to four as they failed to realize that their own number one ranked player Chloe Chicoine decommitted from Penn St months ago! Her choice to make Purdue her home is hardly a secret. As a result Penn St is ranked #4 while Purdue comes in at #9. As a paying subscriber should I not expect a little more attention to detail? PrepVolleyball has become a joke. The fact that they don't know where their #1 ranked recruit is committed tells you all you need to know. 😞 The fact they charge is a joke. Their content has been garbage for years now. Unfortunately, they stay relevant because their content used to be so good.

Maybe not a huge surprise, but a great get nonetheless. Allie has very talented hands and an off-the-charts vb iq. Great add for 2024.

I hope that you can make it to Holloway soon then. There is no better place to see them play I miss coming to games in Holloway. The team + the Boiler Block + the band was always electric. I used to be there 1 to 2 times a year since 2013, but then the job made it harder to fly up. I hope to change that in the future.
