Yes, I would say a precipitous loss of talent and drop in the rankings ... Definitely a drop in talent and the rankings, but I fully believe Purdue will be a top 25 team next season and among the top 4/5 of the Big Ten. That may be my personal bias speaking, but the team still has a lot of talent. Just a matter of putting it all together. Top 25, probably. Being a Big 10 team with solid talent it's not hard to be a considered a top 25 team at some point in the season. Not sure how much more than that though. A lot of talent has passed through Purdue that didn't get "put together". They didn't even make regionals circa 2014-2018 and those teams had players like Nichols, Drews, Cuttino, Smith, Mohler, and Atkinson. I definitely think this is a rebuilding era for Purdue and unfortunately the rise of the ACC will hit the middle Big 10 teams like Purdue the hardest with recruiting in the region.

It was also a time when a lot of people left the program as well. Dimke, Haben, and Smith would have made big impacts if they stayed the full 4 years. Other women left too, but those 3 women were going to be 4 year starters I think for Purdue.

Haben was a big loss given the lack of a solid backcourt in that era.

If I remember right, Haben left due to her injuries and never played elsewhere?

Haben most likely would've had the libero spot over Peters who struggled big time with serve receive. Imagine a back court of Haben, Otec, and Hornung in 2018/2019 😍 Smith would've been our 6-rotation outside instead of Stahl. Cuttino would've stayed in the middle or maybe moved to OPP (though we had Atkinson). It would've been a glorious time!

Cannot believe that Taylor Trammell is leaving!!!! I am so sad. She was so good and would have had playing time after Jael Johnson left. I love Colvin as well…but the combination of Trammell and Colvin would have been awesome next year. Hope she finds an amazing school to play at and make some noise.

She had the spot pretty much locked up so I’m really wondering what the reasoning behind the decision is. Is Jael Johnson returning? Are we going to pursue a transfer? Does Lourdes Myers finally shine?

Trammell and Purdue Volleyball have both unfollowed each other on Instagram if there was any questioning of whether or not she removes herself from the portal. I still have the same questions, does this hint that Jael Johnson stays (her boyfriend just announced he’s staying one more year at Purdue)? Does Purdue pursue a transfer middle, Trammell still had multiple seasons remaining? Does Purdue stick with their VERY young middle lineup?
So many questions and no answers… yet.

After listening to the latest Dig City podcast, all 7 players graduated and will definitely not be taking a fifth year. It makes me wonder about Taylor Trammel then. Even if she didn’t start, she would still have playing time playing second to Colvin. The two of them would have been a great 1-2 punch in the middle. That was the one position that I was not worried about next year. There must be someone pretty special coming in or is already on the team to make TT want to transfer. I am also anxiously awaiting who will be the next woman to wear the coveted number 20 jersey.

Are they pursuing someone in the transfer portal? I could also see them being happy with Colvin and Myers leading the way in the middle with a solid backup in Carr (or Brown). The only issue is Myers would essentially be a freshman after not playing last season. When I went and watched the team, she usually was warming up as a right side. Lots of questions still to be answered...
