A great deal off self-promotion coming out of MSU. I think this is necessary to some extent, but from my seat, I don’t see anything that makes me believe Sparty is climbing the B1G ladder any time soon. True. It's a hard ladder to climb.
But in this day and age, I think the self-promotion is necessary to even have a chance. MSU doesn't do it, they never climb the ladder. They do it, they might climb the ladder. Most Big 10 teams - even the 8th and 9th entries into the tournament - can make tournament runs, even if they finished .500 or slightly below in conference. We've seen it plenty of times. I'll be interested to see if Johnson can do more than that (though making the tourney and making a "run" is a great start) and every once in a while put a team in the Top 5-7 with a +.500 record, or who knows, a year where they do even more. I get it, it's early and she's unproven, but I generally root for MSU to do well.

We get it- you have strong negative feelings towards the MSU volleyball program for some reason. 🙄

I think MSU making the tournament in the next three seasons will be success. Leah Johnson was left with a bare cupboard, and MSU has not had much success in the last four seasons or so. For this season, a few good wins in the conference will be a good start, although I hope they can surpass their expectations.

We get it- you have strong negative feelings towards the MSU volleyball program for some reason. 🙄 Are you implying that you believe there are signs that Sparty is making the improvements to surpass what Cathy George built? I think the implication is that you have a clear bias against the current program (whether that's the new coaching staff of the school itself) and find every opportunity to make negative comments for no clear reason. They haven't even played their first match yet and you're already talking down about their lack of accomplishments. Just sit back and wait for it to unfold before making any judgements. Unless of course, you were passed up for the job and have a bone to pick..

I won’t lie Cathy George definitely was on the decline last fews years after her 2017 senior class. She had a great impact but I think the program will see a better year than last

Franklin, Gros, Poljan, Cullen, and Max-Brown had a lot of talent and that is a good lineup on paper. I think the lack of a strong libero was the missing link.

I think it’s very cool that Sparty is playing all of their home matches at Breslin this year.

I think it's unreasonable for the expectation for MSU to take out the top half of the Big 10 teams - as most were just too good last year. Their results among the bottom half of the conference were respectable. IMO they were a better team than some at-larges that made the tournament - *cough* Marquette, *cough* Kansas State.
