UCLA’s first home game is not until September 22nd this season, when their PAC-12 conference begins with the USC. Is Pauley Pavilion dealing with renovations this summer? Well if that were the case, they could still play in the John Wooden Center, no? It's not uncommon for UCLA to schedule their non-conference that way. If you go back and look at the previous years, they maybe had 1 or 2 non-conference matches at home at most.

Hmm. That's kind of thin at the pins now. I wonder, with four setters on the roster, if they try Lane as a back-up OPP? 🤔

Maybe have the Rumanian hit outside, though she was primarily a blocker as a middle

Considering the injury issues with McCall and Luper last year, and the up and down play of Ndiaye, the two freshmen OHs need to be ready to go. If they aren't, UCLA will struggle. Lane can definitely block at OPP, but setting her to hit would not be ideal.

It's not uncommon for UCLA to schedule their non-conference that way. If you go back and look at the previous years, they maybe had 1 or 2 non-conference matches at home at most. Exactly. But why is that? Many (not all) schools typically have one non-conference tournament/game. For a school ranked in the top 25 for a majority of seasons, I am wondering why that is? I’m not saying other ranked schools do. But this is UCLA! Wondering if you’ll share your opinion. I’m genuinely curious. ucla is on quarters, and fall quarter doesn't usually start until late September. I'm assuming no students would mean the crowds would suck. First day of classes is September 22. Their home and league opener is on September 22, against USC.

I get so disappointed every time I see them play at home against anyone not named USC

I wish UCLA was already in the Big Ten this year. Can't wait for you and USC.

With all of the movement in the conference, I can only think of Stanford and Washington being bigger threats for the conference title. Which other teams do you think will be fighting for top three spots?

Which other teams do you think will be fighting for top three spots? Oregon, WSU, and possibly USC. Basically, the top 6 is fairly tight, then a good sized gap to 7. Washington has the best proven case for being on top, with Stanford the best unproven case (good on paper but haven't proven it yet). The other 4 could all rise to the top with some good health and good luck, or drop to the bottom of that group if their thin areas are exposed. They all have issues that could trend either way.

I suspect the winner of the conference will come out of: Washington, Stanford, Oregon, WSU, UCLA, USC, and maybe Utah Of those, it's quite interesting that WSU's setter moved over to Oregon as a grad transfer. Luper and Hoffman are also quite interesting in that they seem to be absolutely vital for team success, but neither have yet had a college season where they were healthy and available to play the entire season.
