Hello folks-- first time poster, so be gentle, but I wanted to get a thread up and running to talk through the 2022 season for the Bruins.
The 2021 season was a rollercoaster for Bruin volleyball fans, as we saw the team peak in moments of brilliance with two stellar outsides (back to back Pac 12 Player of the Year Mac May and freshman phenom Charitie Luper), but injuries late in the season led to a Round of 16 exit. The off-season was similarly up and down, as we picked up a solid transfer setter and dealt with the rumor mill getting our hopes up that we'd pull Madi Skinner to Westwood.
What are our early thoughts for the 2022 season? Which returners are you most excited to see develop another year? What impact do we think transfers and freshmen will make on the lineup?
RETURNERS élan McCall- OH/OPP Anna Dodson- MB Charitie Luper- OH Katie McCarthy-DS/L Audrey Pak-S Iman Ndiaye- OPP Skylar Canady- OH/OPP Gabriella Sonhalter- OH/OPP Francesca Alupei- MB Tristin Savage- MB Kate Lane- S
INCOMING Cheridyn Leverette- OH/OPP Grayce Olson- OH/OPP Mokihana Tufono- S Matti McKissock- S (Transfer) Lauren Forte- MB (Transfer)

Though there hasn't been a splashy formal announcement, Lauren Forte (MB) transfer from Florida.

Dodson and Forte as a pair would make UCLA's middles among the best in collegiate women's volleyball 2022.
Luper is obviously very good, but she did have some injury issues in 2021, and without May, she will become the focus of the opposing team's top blockers.
No Fleck and McCall in the back row means the quality of the passing and D for 2022 is TBD. If it's somewhat similar to 2021, then UCLA should be top three or four in the Pac.

Luper wasn't injured last season and is fully healthy now. I expect opposing blockers will have about as much success as they did in her freshman season... Her contact point is just too high. The difference is that she'll be passing every ball as teams try to grind her down but in my opinion she is the best OH in the Pac.

Along with fields and some others

Sorry, missed that McCall will actually be back, so that definitely helps. I guess that means the focus is on the L position and what Fleck's replacement looks like.

Baird is really good and actually passed much better than I thought on the season on A LOT of attempts.

I thought Cheridyn Leverette looked great this weekend. From what I saw (admittedly a very small sample) - she is a legit 6 rotation OH.

Along with fields and some others We'll have to see how the passing and setting hold up on the respective teams of the projected top hitters in the Pac. Usually when the OOS attack percentages go up, the LS hitters numbers drop in tandem.
