Just thought others might be tired of the Steve Aird thread. Many picking Indiana last in the B1G for 2022. Aird thread seems to paint a dire picture.
Just curious as to insider info on prospects of the 2022 Indiana team are. The roster lists 14 players, no seniors, 4 juniors, 6 sophomores and 4 freshman. Young team.
Hoping to hear some info on the players and 2022 team formation prognosis.
Hoping to move beyond the negative and controversy on the Aird thread. Focus on the team and the players.
See how this goes.

I will start.
I got to catch 10-12 matches last year at home. Numerous young pieces to Aird's puzzle out there.
From the outside, I thought there were times that Saris looked really strong. Her confidence seemed to grow as the year went on and started to get a feel for what a B1G block looks like. She ended up being second on the team in digs behind Cerame and second in kills/total points behind Edwards. Now, that was mainly because IU couldn't run much in the middle due to being what seemed to be 98% OOS but also not having any consistent opposite attack.
The setting position seemed to be a shuffled deck of cards for a while last year. I think Haworth is your best option. I love her serve and felt like she was the most consistent option out on the floor. Again, like Saris, needs to get that experience under her belt. I also think that being left handed that as she becomes a more developed and mature athlete she can do some things offensively. At no point last year did I see IU have an opposite that could effectively put balls away which made Haworth's life really difficult in dishing out to 2/3 of the front line.
Rammelsburg had some great games out of the middle for the Hoosiers. Late in the year she was continuing to find ways to score against some of the B1Gs best (11 kills against Nebraska, 10 against Purdue). While the numbers might be eye-popping, to do that with the amount of time they were OOS is impressive. I also felt like she had a dynamic aspect to her swing compared to the other middles. You could tell she had some years of experience at the DI level. I think she could be even more impressive next year.
Cerame was a great addition and filled a big need for the Hoosiers. Scared the $#!+ out of me a few times watching her fly around to get digs but I love her motor and tenacity to get the ball up.
Big questions I think will define this next season:
1) Who will step up to take on a role like Breanna Edwards? Saris? A transfer? Someone will need to fill some of the void of over 1100 attacks. 2) Can the Hoosiers have a more balanced distribution which could lead to more success? 3) How will the current crew and newbies handle any outside chatter about SA? That type of noise can either bring the players together or fragment them. Leadership within the players hopefully can dictate a cohesiveness despite the issues surrounding their coach.

Based on all the noise, I think your last sentence might be key.

This thread kind of shows the status of the program now. Meaning.... ...short? Depressing and little/no interest? Uninvolved and lackluster?

One bright spot. They have a good chance to exceed expectations. Something to build on and to provide motivation IMO.

This thread kind of shows the status of the program now. Look at it this way: this thread has more potential to be a one, two, or three-person echo chamber than Jake's COW POLY threads, giving it unique Volleytalk status!

I saw really good flashes from Geddes last year. I think the upcoming season will be a test as to how the program can develop these players. I would like to see more setting from Fitzner, too. I remember they ran a 6-2 with her during her freshman year, and she had some really pretty sets. Hayworth brings a great serve and an offensive mindset, so I am excited to watch her develop this season!

I think it’ll be must see tv, maybe not in a good way. It’s has the drama of the off court stuff, but also who is going to emerge as the go to on offense. Saris, I guess, but who after the defense keys on her?

I don’t see IU at the bottom of the league. Their setting is very capable. Middle offense should be a strength. Libero and DS play should be adequate in the Big Ten. Weaknesses are pin attacking, serve receive, and level of emotional confidence.
