Is she really talking about “coming out”?
Her Tweet is about “life-altering” decisions. I’m generally not a Boebert fan, but I think we should at least frame the question correctly. I think the debate is valid as to when we should allow permanent gender reassignment interventions.
If it really is just about “coming out”, then that’s stupid. But that’s not how I read the Tweet.

Again, I was having issues with my internet access (was stuck with low-speed cellular data on a phone). But I finally got halfway decent access and was able to look up the actual tweet. Many it's a doozy on so many different levels.
And just in case she deletes it:
We require people to be 21 to purchase alcohol beverages, and 21 to purchase tobacco products.
Why is it so unreasonable to require people to reach a certain level of maturity before making life-altering decisions about their sexuality and identity?
So she actually believe this. Not only that one shouldn't come out, but that it's somehow wrong to make decisions about one's own sexuality before turning 21. So exactly what does that mean really? One can't date? Or anyone with thoughts of same-sex attraction have to report it and then have those feelings wiped by hypnosis until they turn 21? Or does this mean everyone? So sex should be illegal before age 21 on the basis that people don't have the maturity to understand that they're making a life-altering decision. Or maybe marriage can't be legal until all parties are 21?
This is just bizarre thinking.

I can see how it is ambiguous interpretation. If she meant gender reassignment surgery, she very easily could have made that more clear instead of saying sexuality AND identity. What is she differentiating there? I think the most likely interpretation is sexuality = who you are attracted to (i.e gay, bisexual, lesbian, etc.) whereas identity refers to gender reassignment. So, both??? We also have to consider the source. It's Boebert. So like Marjorie, I'm more inclined to error on the side of batsh*t crazy? |
