A. Not picking fights. Just calling ridiculous posts out. Thereafter, I just reply, which is exactly what I am doing right now. B. An example of calling out a ridiculous post is what I did with wahinefan. I could care less who this poster is, especially given his/her username. Will do the exact same to you, or anyone. By the way, please do not patronize me with regards to “keeping wahinefan in check.” C. Please reread my dialogue with the poster you have chosen to highlight to make your point, and then get back to me on exactly what you are trying to say to me. No I'm out. Not gonna ruin the thread by taking it further. You're reply just proved my point anyway. Hey valid reasons..🤷♂️

Believe it or not there are a few… okay maybe just one Hawaii fan in particular who will probably be in shambles, not if Hawaii loses in the Final, but if Thelle does not get another ace to break the record. Apparently, they would rather have Thelle break the record over the team winning the Championship. Go figure. This is not it? 😂🫶🏼 Actually you are right. Forgot about this. Boy am I certainly eating crow for making this indirect comment about you.

My daughter and I went to our first men’s volleyball game in person. We’ve been fans for years and had planned to go in 2020, but Covid… We stopped by the hotel for the team pep rally. To say we were in awe is an understatement. Hawaiian culture is so beautiful. We were welcomed and given Ti leaves and posters and even offered up the fries from their dinner plate. We were offered court side seats if we ever made it to Hawaii for a match. If I am ever blessed to visit the beautiful state of Hawaii it will be during men’s volleyball season for sure.
Being on the east coast I have stayed up until after 3am to watch a game because Warrior volleyball is that special. Saturday will be our second in person game and lord willing it will have the same outcome. Go Bows!! 💚🖤🏐🌈

Good Lord, the time it takes to get through all the word fights is exasperating. However it was great to read the comments that occurred during the match. Loved reading the emotional ride other fans were taking.
My comments: 1. Hawaii was a little off I thought as evidenced by the SEs and hitting errors. Certainly PSU's tough serving played a major role too. But even against Sani and Henno the Warriors did significantly better. For sure traveling 5,000 mi will have an impact too. I'm hopeful they'll have things cleaned up for the finals as they did last year.
2. I join with other posters who were rightfully awed (and jealous) of the Hawaii contingent in the stands. I don't know if that unnamed supporter underwrote the band and cheerleaders again this year but I'm guessing that did happen. So incredibly cool to have that kind of support for the team.
3. The color guy was undoubtedly biased. Just fast forward to the 5th set when emotions are high and notice what his comments are and also when he doesn't comment at all after a Hawaii point. The play by play did a good balanced job. Perhaps with PSU out, the color guy can do a better job with the role he is supposed to play.
4. Of course I'm rooting for a win but I'm also agreeing with myself that this whole season has already been overwhelmingly satisfying. Even with a veteran team, I liked how the team improved from the season start till now. I liked how players stepped up when needed...Shewie, Akana, Nustermeier, Humler, et. al. Wade had a plan and stuck to it. From developing players for next season as well as player use management and scheduling.
Go Warriors

Jay is certainly knowledgeable, and did a credible job. His leanings toward the EIVA and Penn State were expected. He coaches George Mason MVB (in the EIVA), and he stated at one point in the broadcast that 'the best six years of his life' may have been his time working for Pavlick at Penn State. So, he was upfront about his leanings. As a Hawai'i fan I didn't find him disagreeable, more a little too dry and repetitive. Particularly his schtick when a ball was served into the net. He was slow to take a hint from the play-by-play he'd gone on too much too long with that one. Perhaps going with an active coach for the color, one with strong ties to one conference and one coach (EIVA and Pavlick) wasn't the best call. But it wasn't so bad that I had to mute often. Which I frequently do even with Hawai'i broadcasters, which also fall in love with their cliches and schticks and exhibit obvious leanings.

I’ve been thinking about this since the topic was brought up and I’m sure there’s a.m combination that could do an incredible job and draw normies in. Meaning keep Karch Kiraly far far away lol

Can't believe the entire 2023 campaign comes to a close tomorrow night. I remember the hype when the season started with the introduction video that was made.

I’ve been thinking about this since the topic was brought up and I’m sure there’s a.m combination that could do an incredible job and draw normies in. Meaning keep Karch Kiraly far far away lol In small doses, I like the guy who does play-by-play and color for the Pepperdine broadcasts. He can be a little monotone and repetitive, but he does the broadcast solo and does a good job. He'd need a color guy for the NCAA tournament, not sure who'd he'd pair well with. He'd have to learn to share the mic. The BYU broadcasts are entertaining and frequently insightful, though very homer. Which is ok, they are aware of it and acknowledge when they are a little over the top. I imagine them doing the NCAA tournament and it would be interesting to see how they'd handle it. The Hawai'i broadcasts are well done, entertaining, and homer. Occasionally they go the other way though and build up the Hawai'i competition to the point of ridiculous. Maybe they think it gives them some non-homer cred or makes it more interesting when Hawai'i beats them anyway. But I'm so familiar with their calls and schtick I often mute to keep from hearing it all again for the umpteenth time. They could do the early rounds of the NCAA, but likely they have too many Hawaii colloquialisms in them to avoid mildly irritating a national audience. The Irvine broadcasts are also done well, and although a little homer they aren't over the top. Rob can call every name and touch of the ball like a radio announcer, which he'd probably be better not doing for TV. And Charlie does well with color, although he doesn't have a great announcer voice he makes up for it by being a calming presence to Rob's sometime bouncing off the wall kinetic energy. I'd rate them as one of the better teams that might have been the better pairing than Rob and Jay. Sunderland and Barnett do well with with men's Olympic and NCAA matches. Sunderland has a great voice, he's a pro with play-by-play and usually can't tell immediately which team he leans toward. He does best when he doesn't stray too far into color. Barnett provides some sharp insight and energy to balance with Sunderland's lower key calling. Occasionally Barnet is too sharp and critical, but he seems aware of it and will try to reel it in or balance it out later. But Barnett sometimes gets 'choppy' in his commentary where he starts with his conclusion then backfills it. I mute them less than others, and prefer them for 'big' matches.

noblesol, been reading and appreciating you for years so I say sincerely that your reviews of the various broadcasting teams are informative at the very least. I'll say a little more about this topic and put a cork on it. Jay Hosack was annoying to me personally as the match wore on and particularly in the 5th set but he wasn't terminal. I've heard much worse. As for the local team and other conference duo's I try to cut them some slack since they know they are appealing to the local scene. To be sure Kanoa and Mac must be a challenge at times to the mainland audience but my old memory cells seem to remember their broadcasts to a national audience. Was it as radio events in previous national tournaments? Seems that I remember they cleaned up the local stuff and maintained a pretty good balance. Was that a personal illusion/delusion? hahahaha This topic is pau for me. Thanks.
