Is Kai Rodrigues 2023 or 2024? What's the info on him? Highly recruited, US Junior team, etc? One of the better players in his age group every single year. Great volleyball iq, high leaper, very smart hitter. He will be good. Kai Taylor- heavy arm and fearless . I think he redshirts as he needs to work on hitting higher and improving his vertical but he has a great serve that could help right away. Derek Bradford- Looks 6’9 to me, he is a bomber, can play left or right, his passing needs work if he will play on the left though. He is also a great blocker so can see him as a middle as well. Probably could be a bigger better version of Dalton Solbrig in the middle. Lots of potential to work with here for Wade and Milan.

Hey koavball, I was wondering if you know anything about the recruiting status of Cole Hartke from Barrington, IL.?

Would be curious to know who is on Wade’s short list to replace coach Walker. From a very brief comment made by a poster who seems to have the inside scoop on recruiting, it sounds like they have some great candidates already. Time will tell. I wonder if Mark Presho applied?

I was wondering about Presho as well. Wade seems to have a knack for selecting assistant coaches. IMO Walker’s replacement means more for us next season than any one single player recruit. I also hope we ratchet down the scheduling of new teams for the sake of growing the game. Instead we need to consider growing our RPI to avoid being left out in the cold due to a weak as5 SOS.

I doubt Mark Presho will give up his high paying job in SoCal and move to Hawaii to get the second assistant job. He would not only get paid less than his currently getting paid at his current job but also he will inherit Josh Walker's responsibilities of breaking down films and scouting teams. He was the Associate HC at Irvine. He is not going to be the 2nd assistant and do these duties. Walker's spot is for up and comers who would be willing to do all the little stuff and move up the coaching ladder. I don't see Presho doing that. Maybe Kyler might but not Mark. Or maybe even a guy like Nick Castello if he is willing to move over to the men's side. Castello was a late replacement for Angelica. I have the feeling that Robyn Ah Mow might want to get another woman on her staff so I think Castello moving to the men's side makes sense. Being part of a national championship coaching staff could hep Nick get a better gig like how Walker did.

Sedore, Kanetake, Reft, K. Shoji? I doubt Alfred Reft will leave his Associate Head Coach position at USD, considering he was an assistant to Chris Tamas at Illinois.

I think someone like Jayce Ashment might be ok. He seems to be the ultimate volleyball guy and is coaching multiple teams at SAS. With him, there is no concern of raising a family so he can spend his time focus on being a good volleyball coach.
Doesn't seems to have much D1 level coaching but neither did Josh Walker.

Or we could grow the game so much that lower tier teams don’t negatively impact the postseason, not to mention expanding the tournament.

Is that what he's been doing since he left UH? He was a UH setter for a year but never played, then was gone.

Mans is running a dynasty in Hawaii High School volleyball. Since his son is leaving for Pepperdine this year and his club team that he's coached since 13s year is gone, I could see the move to UH. Especially since he's an Alum of the MVB team. Pretty far fetched idea but a dude can dream right?

What about Koby Kanetake? I know he is an assistant coach at Chaminade but he would be paid more I'd assume.

Each year we see teams that deserved invites but were passed over. Hawaii was on the receiving end of this back when the Big West teams were in the MPSF. As for growing the game, it’s fine to schedule in one or two fledgling programs each season but let the other power teams take on their fair share of these matches. With the loosening of COVID restrictions, I’m hoping we can play a more competitive schedule even if it means hitting the road more often.
