What is going to happen with Chicago State?
Will they be 'independent' for the 2022 women's volleyball season? When was the last time a D1 team was independent in volleyball (and have any of them had success, like, close to at-large level?)
I believe I've gone through at least one team's conference schedule from ALL of the 32 conferences... and Chicago State's name does not appear on any of them. They DO have a full slate of non-conference games scheduled, so, I imagine they are scrambling to find some solution to get games for the entire season. But a lot of schedules have been released, and I don't see their name for many non-conference matches after first 4 weeks. I think only Bellarmine has them scheduled.
It's getting very late in the game, however, I just saw an announcement on Instagram that the Horizon league has accepted Chicago State as affiliate members for men's and women's tennis.
Chicago State isn't a terrible team. They have a lot of international flair and I think will be improved from last year. They return the WAC Player of the Year Yanlis Feliz.

I believe Notre Dame was independent during some years in the 1980s (they went through a couple of conferences also). If I'm interpreting their record book correctly, it looks like they made the tournament in 1988 and even advanced to the second round (win over Penn State) without playing in a conference.

The AD left after pulling all teams from conference. Interm AD was unable to find a conference for VB which had been promised since spring season. Only a few Chicago State sports were able to get into a new conference. The entire basketball team is in portal and many coaching changes across the school have taken place over the past 4-5 months. Asst VB coach is leaving for a new position.

But some of the outlying schools are still there.

I imagine that's a reason why there's drama. Chicago St. could definitely win the MEAC if they were playing there this upcoming season.

has the Valley released their conf schedule?
they'd be a decent affiliate or emergency option there.

Well I guess we will never know, but Tony didn't win the last decade he was in the MEAC at Florida A&M. Actually A&M is much improved after he left.

That's different than saying they would definitely win the conference. But I guess I could have worded that better anyway. If they were in the MEAC, they are a frontrunner for sure. FAM is good - we should have a MEAC Champion vs. SWAC Champion showdown Thanksgiving weekend after the conference tournaments are done. Dominique Washington is back for them -- right? That's huge. I also like the Aja Jones transfer a lot.

I think the MEAC has three teams (Howard, Del St., Coppin St.) that could compete with FAMU and Chicago State, those five are a step above. I'm interested to see where Alabama State and Jackson State fit in the mix, but I don't think they have the athleticism to match the other group.

The Great West was a non-AQ conference made of teams across the country (including Chicago State) so they were all independents really, but had a scheduling arrangement with one another. Pretty sure none of them sniffed the volleyball tournament. When realignment happened the WAC pulled 3 teams, everyone found a home except NJIT who was an independent in 2013 and 2014. Here is their 2014 schedule to see what that looked like... njithighlanders.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule/2014

A&M is much improved after Tony left?🤔 I wouldn’t go that far. Much improved compared to 2018, 2019 yes. Tony left after 2017.
