At the Capital Hill Classic Metro pulled a sweep in almost all of the open Divisions. Metro won the 18, 17, 15, 14 and 13 divisions.
The 16 team got upset by a Blue Ridge team that has two impressive left sides in Ada McCoy and Kennedy Spaid. Kennedy is a 2026 playing up. After losing Metro had to play a good Puerto Rican team Mets and lost 25-17 and 29-27, knocking them to the silver bracket.
The 16 Open was won by Pittsburgh Elite. Elite Volleyball Training Center in Ohio took second. Virginia Elite finished third and has a player to watch named Evelyn Jurden. She is used in a two passing serve receive, is their alternate setter, stands 6'2" and has an approach jump just shy of 10 feet (Edit: Ana Toumazatos was the girl involved in serve receive, not Evelyn). Talk about versatility. The team also relies on her to hit a number of 3 meter sets.
In the 18 Open, Paramount and Metro battled it out. Metro won 25-21 and 25-15 but Paramount was playing back to back matches. Neither team lost a set going into the championship match. Both have bids for the Junior Nationals.
In the 17 Open Blue Ridge finished third. They lost to Carolina Juniors in the semis (25-23, 15-25, 15-11).
A number of teams from Puerto Rico in the tournament.

Blue Ridge have a number of beach players. Emma White, Brenna Corbin and others. I'm not that familiar with the AVP if that is the beach. You don't see them in Junior Nationals because when April turns to May their attention fades from the hard courts and turns to the sand. But as they have more success indoors that may change.
One of their teams (I think 15's) went to AAUs in Florida and finished second in a non-open category.

There's a Blue Ridge group that plays in a lot of beach tournaments, so I think that's pretty cool to see an outdoor program having some success indoors. If they're good enough to beat Metro, then they're probably an Open level team as well. Metro is perennially in the Open at almost every age group. If you can play half the court in the sand, then I imagine it's much easier to only have to cover 1/6 of the court on sport court. Just imagine if they played indoor year round! I'm also more kind of wondering what was going through Metro's head as they lost to a bunch of beach players and didn't make it out of pool play.

The Blue Ridge 16 team took ninth in the Open Division. Kennedy Spaid and Ada McCoy are two six rotation left sides that no team can match in the Chesapeake region at that age group. And Kennedy is a 2026. She was the top outside hitter for James Wood High School that won the Class 4 State championship, ending the ten year run for Loudoun County High school and sending Grafton to second place for the fifth consecutive year. The 5'5" frosh Brenna Corbin was second on James Wood High School in kills but plays libero for the Blue Ridge 16 team.
Blue Ridge 17 finished third. They never got a chance to play Metro but they are scrappy. Emma White plays a good libero (as well as beach game) and the 5'8" Greta Barvick led her high school team in kills as a left side but sets for the team and fires missiles from the right side.
Blue Ridge 15 struggled a bit but they have done well in some tournaments. They have a 6'3 middle (class of 2025) Samantha Stephens whose left handed swing may eventually move her to right side, but she has potential.
With both Paramount and Blue Ridge on the rise Metro is facing some competition locally. I'd like to see Blue Ridge get more active in qualifiers.

In 15U, Reese Shugart with Stars 15 Bing seems to be getting some early attention from various programs.

I think they've only been around for a handful of years and have already acquired two Open bids in that timespan. Certainly a club that will be giving Metro a run for their money in the CHRVA region.

The No Dinx Sierra Classic 18u NQ has been cancelled for this weekend. So that adds 4 at large bids to the already high amount. I think its up to 7. That's insane.
