The sentiment of some posters in this thread is just plan disgusting.

Does Duke really not make a change? There's still the rest of today and tomorrow, but they also have been done since Wednesday night. If they don't, you have to wonder what the admin investment is in the program. They've been 40-51 in ACC play since 2017 in a largely top heavy conference. They are also a prestigious institution in a state with a wealth of youth talent. There is no reason they aren't better. I have no indication that Duke is going to make a change, but I'm sure if they are, it will not happen today since they are trying to fundraise:

With the way some mid majors let go of staffs (NIU, Southern Indiana), what other mid major programs should be in the hot seat?

For those who subscribe to the "where there is smoke there is fire" theory, the portal has a handful of players from Arizona, Arizona St, Albany, Butler, Cal St Fullerton, UC Irvine, Georgia St, Kent St, Marist, Michigan, New Hampshire, Norfolk St, Rider, UTEP, West Virginia and Idaho, though Idaho had that murder and many students left campus so the issues there could be much bigger than volleyball.
Does anyone have any insight into what's going on at any of these schools? Are we expecting any of them to open?

Are we expecting any of them to open? 2 of Arizona’s are grad transfers, 2 of them were backups (one of them has been in and out of even being able to practice), and yeah, the other was an undergrad starter. Wouldn’t be shocked to see her end up closer to home.

My thought is because he’s an old school public employee he probably has state employee protections built in to his contacts. I think that is a thing of the past in the coaching realms.

I have a feeling he won’t be gone until after the 2024 season, even though his contract doesn’t end until 2026.

Just looked at the recap from last night's season ending loss to TCU. Interesting quote from Gray-Walton: "Man, I think the competitive spirit is at an all-time high. What we learned this season is success takes time and is process oriented. This group really did buy into it, and I hope that they can find a way to re-engage and kind of dive deeper into that … because then, we're a scary group." Hearing rumblings this is a done deal and she’s out.

With season a week away, who do we think might be in trouble if they have a poor showing this year? -Does Arizona State need to make a change? 61-85 (.418) and no NCAA Tournament appearances under 5 years of Tomasevic. -Is Cal getting warm? After going 20-10 in 2019, they have won only 8 games since, including 1-41 in the PAC. -Will Duke's new AD starting her second academic year finally make a change for the first time since 1999? -How much of a leash does Aird have at Indiana? -Missouri made 3 tournaments under Taylor, but went 5-26 last year, including getting swept in 2 of their 3 preseason tournaments after many transfer departures. What is the patience here? Does it change with Oklahoma and Texas joining the conference soon. -Is North Carolina making the tournament last year enough to get Sagula an extension? Last extension was through 2022. -Is Oklahoma getting warm? 14-31 (.311) since making the tournament in 2019. -Is Oregon State ready to move on? 63-112 (.360) since 2016 under Barnard, including 19-60 (.241) in the last 3 seasons.
Circling back on the OP: -Arizona State is 12-18 and hosts Utah and Arizona this weekend. Their only significant win all year was @ Washington, but that is looking less impressive every weekend. I do question the Administrations investment in volleyball though. They just built a new Multi-Purpose Arena on campus and volleyball got left in a 14,000+ capacity basketball facility that I'm not even sure Nebraska or Hawaii could fill on a match by match basis.

KBB has been quite outspoken about the impact her mentors (Pettit, etc) have had on her career.

Maybe Booth should go into administration and show them how it's done? I like how she's sticking up for her fellow coaches. But if she's not going to get specific, it waters down her message. There are a lot of factors which go into an employee getting dismissed. Some of it is performance based, but there are other factors, too. One of the bigger ones is - was the coach being fired also hired by the administrator in place? Is the program perceived to be heading in an upward trajectory, plateauing, or a downward trajectory? As an example, Lindsey Gray-Walton has been the head coach at OU for 5 seasons. "Gray-Walton, an Oklahoma City native, had coached the Sooners to a 65-64 record across the past five seasons, including a 15-13 mark in 2022. The Sooners went 5-11 in 2022 Big 12 play, however, finishing second to last in the conference.... Gray Walton's best season came in 2019 when she led Oklahoma to 19-9 record and third place finish in the Big 12, helping it reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014. The Sooners also garnered 19 All-Big 12 accolades under Gray-Walton's tutelage. Prior to coming to Norman in 2017, Gray-Walton was previously an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Kentucky for eight years. The former Georgia Tech standout held the same role at the College of Charleston in 2009." Joe Castiglione is one of the best athletic directors in the business, in my opinion. I've never felt like he had a quick hook, and I don't believe it here. There can be plenty of quality coaches being fired because the position wasn't right, or the timing wasn't right for them to succeed. Maybe one of these coaches does a Bill Belicheck or Pete Carroll. But it's not necessarily the administrator's job at some of these places to help develop them into the best version of a head coach they can be. Give them assistance, sure. Help them to the best of their ability given the resources of their athletic department to succeed, absolutely. But coach them into being the best volleyball coach they can be? I don't know. Maybe? Maybe these coaches should be going out and finding their own mentorships.
