FYI, mcmike is saying the game is showing up on the ESPN3 channel for all you volleyball fans who want to watch the match while also keeping your kidney instead of using it to purchase the option to see it on LHN. I'll be honest. I've seen this too often be an unpleasant diversion where the LHN televised game isn't actually available, but I hope it comes to pass. All content on LHN is available on ESPN3, but you must have access to LHN in order to stream it. Just an addition for those who have LHN. Sorry to nitpick this, but to avoid confusion and getting people’s hopes up: what you’re talking about is the ESPN app. You can, as you said, sign in with your TV provider account and stream he game on the ESPN app, if you wish. But you have to have the provider account with LHN. That’s not the same thing as ESPN3.

If this is true, I would be down the split the cost Same Part of me says I want to rely on a bootleg stream if there will be one available, part of me wants to guarantee I have a way to watch the match live Part of me says we should stop bootlegging volleyball broadcasts/streams PERIOD and start paying for them. When you do that streaming services realize there is value in broadcasting Wisconsin vs Baylor, Minnesota vs Baylor and San Diego vs Pitt at neutral sites in the preconference season.

Hard for me to believe ESPN didn’t know fully that Minn vs Baylor and Wisc vs Baylor would have much higher ratings than the TCU matches. This leads me to believe TCU purposefully disallowed those games from being on ESPN+, in order to try to force Baylor fans to buy tickets. It makes sense, because TCU itself probably doesn’t see another dime if ESPN+ picks up those games, while more tickets sold goes directly into their coffers.

If I wanted to watch the same on my phone, I would use the ESPN app.

I think we’re getting into mild conspiracy theory levels here. This was a ubiquitous issue around the country. trojansc made a post about it, saying it was his biggest pet peeve before play even started. To me the easiest explanation is this is the norm. Whatever setup each tournament organizer has with their broadcast rights, virtually none of them chose to find a streaming solution for matches the host team was not a part of. The key thing being this was normal. I think Coach Sheffield had the best answer. Stop agreeing to participate in these tournaments without some kind of prior assurance on the streaming front, and then, of course, when it’s your turn reciprocate.

There is some truth to this. Also if people aren't not able to watch a match at all (no bootlegs), they also may be more motivated to contact their school's AD and complain about the lack of TV coverage.

LHN has a terrible distribution network, though. I feel forced to choose between a limited number of options because the exclusive Longhorn content is very important to me. But for people who only want it for a one off experience, it’s WAY pricier with much more limited utility than other content packages for volleyball. I have no problem with someone who watches a pirated version. I also pay for BTN+, ESPN+, and SEC+ because I want the volleyball content there, too. But I sure as heck don’t expect everyone to do that. It gets really pricey.

In simple terms, ESPN3, ESPN app, and WatchESPN are much the same thing. ESPN3 is the streaming alternative for computers (laptop or desktop). ESPN app is the same for phones. I don't use my phone to watch sports, but from various posts I've gathered that ESPN app can also be used to stream all or some of ESPN+ events. I assume you must have an ESPN+ subscription to do this the same as you must have TV access to the ESPN TV channels to stream those events.

There is no app, whether phone, tablet, laptop, website, Roku, etc that is called the ESPN3 app. The app says either “watchESPN” or “ESPN” on it. I therefore reject referring to it as “ESPN3”.
Won’t further entertain this. You won’t change your mind and will continue to do as you’ve done.

If you have already verified your TV provider, you will be able to navigate and watch all available content. If a lock icon appears next to your content, you will need to verify your account. Non-participating TV provider customers may have access to ESPN3 programming online at www.espn.com/watch/, as long as they subscribe to a participating high speed internet service provider. Users accessing the URL above or the ESPN mobile app (Android or iOS) via an on-campus (.edu) or on-base (.mil) network receive complimentary access to ESPN3 content.

Indeed, to watch ESPN3 branded content, you need to load the ESPN app and use it to confirm your TV provider or ISP account.
This match is not ESPN3 content.

As someone who frequently watches the non-P5 conferences, it's annoying because it's even more common. They are even more likely to play in those 4-team tournaments where there are 6 matches but only 3 of them are broadcast, and it's the one with the hosts involved. I would have very much so liked to see Rice vs. Houston streamed -- even though it was a dominating performance by Rice, it would have been nice to see. This was actually hosted by LSU too though, another P5 team like TCU not streaming important matches. The Big Ten teams were great about streaming the non-host matches this weekend. I know Syracuse is hosting a tournament next weekend where they actually have a day off not playing but they will broadcast the matches between other teams, and their star player Polina Shemanova is actually going to commentate at least one of them, which is super cool. I know for sure that PAC/B1G/ACC teams have streamed neutral matches. So, it can be done.. I'm not sure if SEC+ has done this in the past, I can't remember any SEC teams broadcasting neutral matches. I remember Baylor/Pitt last year not being streamed at Tennessee, so maybe that is a limitation for them. I can't remember about the Big 12 either off the top of my head.
