Texas really ruining ncaa vball by creating super teams. At first I thought it was cool but now I just think it’s bad for the sport for Texas just to collect all the talent that other coaches around the country spend time and resources developing instead of developing it themselves. It’s disappointing Meh. Texas recruits well with or without the portal. It’s Elliott’s thing, and if recruiting evolves to include the portal, what of it? Elliott doesn’t collect players as much as they choose to be collected. We can play shoulda coulda woulda with the portal as much as we want but the fact is Texas will always have and attract top talent, regardless of how he develops them. Even out of high school, players can get over recruited at places like Texas, and a couple others. Would you say it was ruining the sport if a certain school kept getting top 5 recruiting classes year after year?

They aren’t. Skinner is looking more like an Amber Roberson than Skyler Fields. Elliott worked hard to recruit her but I hope a confirmation bias doesn’t get in his way of pulling her when it’s necessary (and tonight, many times, it was). I think he wants to leave her in because obviously he worked so hard to get her here as well as not having confidence in Parra and Devin to get the job done As well as he’s counting on her to be the offensive and floor leader the next couple years.

It’s disappointing There’s a lot that goes into choosing a place to play. If athletes are not happy at their current institutions and feel like a change of scenery is needed, then so be it. Programs exist not just to play volleyball. It’s a total package: education, team chemistry, growth (including personal), enjoyment, and ultimately, happiness. Texas isn’t for everyone, I know that. But if a player is “stuck” somewhere that they aren’t being fulfilled, why not transfer? It’s not “Texas’ fault” that they can provide things that other institutions couldn’t. (And I’m not saying Texas is the only one or anything.) It’s not all about competing and winning.

If Texas recruits so well WITHOUT the portal then how come 5 out of the 6 players (!) on court against Ohio State at times were from UCLA, Nebraska, Kentucky, Utah, and Cal? Texas definitely recruits well. Congrats. And Texas would still be one of the top teams without the portal. But come onnnn. The portal unlimited transfer situation this year is ridiculous and cries out for some reasonable adjustment to more fairly distribute the talent. Either limit how many any given team can take or how many can play in a given year. I'd say 2 would be fair and about right. Besides, we don't want you horns fans to look even more schadenfreude-ly ridiculous if you STILL can't win the national championship this year. We care...

I remember the days of former All-Americans sitting on the bench when they got recruited over (see Penn State 2007-2009), but I think maybe what’s giving me whiplash is how quickly things have changed. Just a few years ago, Lexi Sun’s transfer was considered pretty crazy. #1 recruit going from a major program to its rival? Unheard of! Now, seemingly overnight, we find ourselves in a situation where the #1 team in the country has had a few rotations where 5/6 players are transfers- but, even more insane: 4 of them played somewhere else last year. It would be weird to see 2 transfers on the floor for a top program at once not even 2-3 years ago. I think the portal is good for the sport and good for student athletes. Just not sure this version of it is good for the game. In softball, Oklahoma straight up does not bother to develop players now. If it isn’t working out in one year, Gasso tells them they aren’t starter material and strongly suggests they leave if they want playing time so she can snag AA’s from the portal. It’s a bit insane that kids are using mid and bottom tier PAC and SEC programs more or less as stepping stones to prove themselves so they can transfer up. That’s really bad for parity if the best players from mid-tier teams are abandoning ship. If TX and Neb play this year, Cook will have developed 7 of the 12 players on the court (minus Hord). Elliott will have rotations where telling Eggleston to go to the final four to watch Kathryn Plummer will be his coaching / player development contribution. I love TX, the program and the players seem like stand up folks, but I just don’t know that this is a good strategy for players or for the sport.

PS, that said, you can’t blame someone for taking advantage of the system that’s been set up for him. It’s Elliot’s literal job to win national championships, and having gamed the system better than anyone else so far is also a sign of a good coach who is being strategic about how to get his job done. PPS, despite all of this, I still want TX to win the NC bc Eggleston is a generational talent who deserves a natty.

It's not like Jim Moore had success recruiting at Texas in the late '90's. A head coach's personality actually matters in recruiting; that, and not verbally abusing players.

shaffmaster is dragging down Minnesota badly. there been a few good dig and passes that she has made look a lot more difficult. landfair and wenaas are swinging at some crazy sets And for all you MN fans who dragged me for saying she was the reason they'd lose matches...suck it!

MN just pissed me off real bad 😒 I know exactly how you are feeling. Self inflicted for the most part tonight....absolutely. We have too many experienced starters that just couldn't get their game face on tonight and the score reflectedf that. You have a setter who can barely set perfect passes.

It’s disappointing There he is! Just like clockwork. If I had a dollar for every post you've made complaining, blaming, or whining about Texas in some form or fashion, I'd be a billionaire. Seriously, find a new hobby. I'm pretty sure I recall you hoping different transfers would choose Kentucky this past offseason. And, you celebrated when Rollins chose UK. Guess it's okay when the outcomes benefit YOUR team. What a hypocrite. me hoping we get one player in the transfer portal is different than getting 6 players other coaches developed

This Minnesota team with Wucherer back and their best middle tandem is going to be something special. I’ll blame the missed serves on the Texas crowd, it’s too early in the season to have to deal with all that lol I blame trying to keep TX out of system. It's more difficult now with better passing...unless you have Skinner passing. Oooof!
