Also yea I don’t blame Elliot for doing it but I still think this is bad for the sport

Idk, maybe “different” isn’t always bad. I remember the days of former All-Americans sitting on the bench when they got recruited over (see Penn State 2007-2009), but I think maybe what’s giving me whiplash is how quickly things have changed. Just a few years ago, Lexi Sun’s transfer was considered pretty crazy. #1 recruit going from a major program to its rival? Unheard of! Now, seemingly overnight, we find ourselves in a situation where the #1 team in the country has had a few rotations where 5/6 players are transfers- but, even more insane: 4 of them played somewhere else last year. It would be weird to see 2 transfers on the floor for a top program at once not even 2-3 years ago. I think the portal is good for the sport and good for student athletes. Just not sure this version of it is good for the game. In softball, Oklahoma straight up does not bother to develop players now. If it isn’t working out in one year, Gasso tells them they aren’t starter material and strongly suggests they leave if they want playing time so she can snag AA’s from the portal. It’s a bit insane that kids are using mid and bottom tier PAC and SEC programs more or less as stepping stones to prove themselves so they can transfer up. That’s really bad for parity if the best players from mid-tier teams are abandoning ship. If TX and Neb play this year, Cook will have developed 7 of the 12 players on the court (minus Hord). Elliott will have rotations where telling Eggleston to go to the final four to watch Kathryn Plummer will be his coaching / player development contribution. I love TX, the program and the players seem like stand up folks, but I just don’t know that this is a good strategy for players or for the sport. PS, that said, you can’t blame someone for taking advantage of the system that’s been set up for him. It’s Elliot’s literal job to win national championships, and having gamed the system better than anyone else so far is also a sign of a good coach who is being strategic about how to get his job done. PPS, despite all of this, I still want TX to win the NC bc Eggleston is a generational talent who deserves a natty. True, as much as I agree that Elliot has put together a “super team” this year thanks to the portal, he’s also just playing the game strategically. Sheffield did the same thing last year and won a natty only his strategy was to have a team full of Covid super seniors. It’s all going to be a little jumbled and chaotic for a while with this Covid year and transfer portal madness. A lot of the transfers were Covid seniors. Personally, I think the Covid year was a fair compromise but I’m looking forward to when the Covid year players are gone and we’re back to some normalcy.

There he is! Just like clockwork. If I had a dollar for every post you've made complaining, blaming, or whining about Texas in some form or fashion, I'd be a billionaire. Seriously, find a new hobby. I'm pretty sure I recall you hoping different transfers would choose Kentucky this past offseason. And, you celebrated when Rollins chose UK. Guess it's okay when the outcomes benefit YOUR team. What a hypocrite. me hoping we get one player in the transfer portal is different than getting 6 players other coaches developed Pretty certain you were "hoping" for more than one transfer player. If you believe Coach Skinner didn't pursue multiple players who entered the transfer portal this past off-season, then so be it. You had all off-season to complain about Texas' success in the transfer portal; but, let's be real. You started complaining loudly last night based on the team you were rooting for having lost. Just own it.

I’ll be rooting for that same Minnesota team to lose against Florida on Sunday but also yea it seemed cool In the off season but In practice how is anyone supposed to compete with a roster of all the best players Texas had nothing to do with developing. Also for the record I’m allowed to say I want Texas to lose and not like them as much as I want lol. I do own that

I just don’t understand everyone having an issue with Texas being a stacked team when they apparently always “have stacked teams and come up short”.
I’m sure they’ve started a season 3-0 before and as people on volleytalk like to point out incessantly, they’ve come up short of winning a natty in those seasons too.
Love what I’ve seen from this Texas team so far but tbh I think 2008 & 2009 Penn State claps this Texas team in 3 sets lol MAYBE 4.
It seems to me like Texas isn’t doing anything out of character for the program, I just think the fact that the portal streamlines the transfer/recruiting process, everyone is just chicken littling like volleytalkers are prone to do.
At the end of the day, student athletes don’t go anywhere by force, ultimately their choice. I would have loved to see Skinner at UCLA who was in the running via a reliable source despite what certain losers on here like to say.
But she went to Texas because she wanted to. Same as SKT, Ewert, Bergmark, Caffey, and Akana. Hord didn’t want to, neither did all the others that Texas went after who weren’t interested. Just a really lucky year for UT and likely other schools get lucky as well in the future.
Texas is strong as usual, AND they can pass and play defense, which is unusual. Also the most productive players for Texas so far are OG Texas recruits. Idk still a lot of season left so just enjoy the good volleyball and stop being so shiddy about everything.

I agree that it was a lucky off-season for Texas. Not so much the number of transfers, but that several were equal caliber replacements for our own transfers. Would people be complaining, or near as much, if our team included Fields, Iosia, and Gabriel instead of Skinner, Akana, and Ewert? It's obvious that we recruited, or at least were able to land those transfers, only because we had a high caliber player transfer at the same position. Also we had ships available for Fleck and Bergmark only because Madison Williams and Cabello transferred. Everyone overlooks now that Texas lost five transfers which is the main driving force for having six incoming.

I guess Kentucky got dumped to the side like Baylor before them.

No, you're really more of a fan "against" programs. Also you're simply a frontrunner. You only become a fan of a team when they are really good and then drop them like a hot potato when they drop off.

Who the hell do you think you are to be critical of how someone else celebrates their favorite sport? This is like sixth grade level name-calling.
