as a Stanford fan im not sure that's gonna happen. they have the potential to be one of the few teams left at the end but I don't think they are quite ready to take down Texas. I hope they prove me wrong but I think rubin needs more time to settle in and help this team reach the next level. Rubin and Baird need to pass well. That is probably the most critical issue. I think Rubin's hitting is probably a lot less important. If Rubin and Baird can pass well and we can get the ball to Francis I think we have a real chance. If we keep setting Kipp all of the time like we did against Florida we will get crushed.... First, let's not serve Fleck or Halter, especially Fleck. And let's cut down on the SEs. I realize you need to serve tough, but don't give the Horns 20 free ones. Also hit away from Fleck as she hoovers up balls. But you are right, Texas will target Baird with extreme prejudice on serve, so she'll need to have a decent to good day passing, or Stanford is toast.

I agree. part of us only setting kipp against Florida was also that baird was not producing. if those two are playing well, Stanford won't need to pass great to win big matches. passing will still have to be solid tho in order for rubin and Francis to take some of the attention away FWIW, I think the broader problem last year is had no middle attack and had to rely on our pin hitters. If Francis is anything like what we have seen in the first three games we have to focus on getting her the ball which will open up our pins....

You don't want to serve Fleck but you want to serve in. It feels like that's a classic "choose one" to me.

I didn't see anything from Francis in the Florida match to think that couldn't be duplicated against other opponents, assuming the passing is there. It wasn't just her attacks, either. She was great on the block, too. And as other Stanford fans have commented, she lifts the whole team with her energy. There's a lot of game faces on the Stanford side of the court. Francis's unbounded joy is a nice counter point.

I feel like Miner needs to set Baird in system more often. Like if she gets a dime pass, I wanna see those going to Baird a solid 50% of the time because she so good in system. Yes, I want her to set the middles more too, but only setting Baird OOS isn’t gonna help her numbers at all

Stanford really needs to clean it up. It's fashionable to say you don't care about service errors, but at some point you need to start worrying about them, and it seems to me that 4 a set is well into that range. Especially with only 4 aces and no real service pressure for most of the (Florida) match. Rewatching the match it seems like most of the time they were shooting for corners and not getting them- in the fifth they started serving the middle of the court and had much better success. Whether that will carry over into another match is a question. Also not to be ignored are the 31 hitting errors- many of which didn't look particularly forced.

Hoping Sami Francis will have a big match.
Would be a good experience for Rubin, too. Let’s see if her passing holds up. But I think she has a bright future ahead.

Looks like there is more than one Pac 12 channel and I was on the wrong one, so that's sorted! Still looking to do my part to fill those empty season-ticket holder seats for Davis and Houston however ...

GO Stanford!.....but I'd like O'Neal to put up a big wall that the Stanford hitters swing into for about 9 or 10 blocks, please and thanks.
