im probably late to this but i just watched the postgame interview with cook and he starts it with "we're in school, stanford's not so i dont know what their reason is" for playing ugly volleyball. what happened last season then? Reminds me of Cook's comments several years ago. In 2015 when Nebraska beat Texas in the finals, he gave part of the credit to the tough Big 10 schedule preparing them for the tournament. Then the next year in 2016 when Texas beat Nebraska in the semis, the statement was that the Big 10 schedule wore down the team for the tournament. Darth Sidious works in mysterious ways.

Excuses change to meet the outcome.

Both Miner AND Orr (being in the same class) were being hyped as the the next great setters in the NCAA that nobody could touch, they were just THAT GOOD... 1 and 2 according to those that put a bunch of stock in the junior usav teams. Now, sure they still have years to improve sure, but it's very clear that, for a variety of reasons, the prognosticators were wrong. And, it's not just about those two, I mean, Batenhorst played high level USAV junior ball and attacked well, and you couldn't kind a bigger OH threat in club than Krause (who also spent a lot of time in the USAV gym at the junior levels)...yet again, for...reasons, neither have been consistent at the NCAA level and both have been passed up by a player who didn't get the USAV love that they did a mere two/three years ago. I say this not to suggest that these players are bad or overrated, only to point out that people on this board continue to gush that pretty much the entire U19 team is going to Nebraska in the future and while that recruiting is certainly exceptional, they aren't the only great players out there and being a good prep fit for what the USAV junior teams want to do doesn't mean that the player will dominate in college. Orr as in Nebraska Orr? The girl who was subbed in last night and clubbed the ball like a baby seal every contact was ranked #2??? Oof... Both look great athletically but both have some major issues with their touch.
No. As in the #1 recruit.

Real klassy JC. Man are some people sensitive. 🙄 All I see is John Cook breaking down the game and saying it like it is. Sometimes the truth hurts.

boy, coach Cook's gotten under a lot of people's skin it seems! Eh, he's blamed his players and distanced himself from the loss, minimized the winning team's performance (which I've never understood--"Stanford played a great, gritty game and taught us X we can use to improve in the future" is a much better look than trashing them, and also doesn't suggest your own program lost to a bad team), and has been dishonest in the past towards a couple players, claiming they transferred away from the program for selfish reasons and complaining about the NIL when in actuality he promised both players scholarships and then reneged on them when a better opportunity came along. Cook's record speaks for itself. But so does his attitude.

TBH, the more I think about it Cook just can’t understand how he bagged the number 1 recruit that isn’t able to consistently set a ball without doubling. I mean this shouldn’t be happening on a top 25 team. I can’t take the excuses that she hasn’t played in two years as a valid excuse… maybe the first day or two of practice but not now. There’s a bigger issue at hand here.
