A match at 10 am and then again at 6 pm? That’s a recipe for disaster. most teams have schedules like that (or worse) a few times each season during the non-conference weekends Years ago, Stanford lost to SLU on a double match day in Saint Louis. The reason to play double match days is to minimize dates of competition (which are capped) while playing more matches (which are not). Holiday tournaments in BB get a similar exemption that lets teams play more games in fewer counted data of competition on the same court in consecutive days. Playing multiple games in a day works if you are playing two cupcakes on the same day in a complete round-robin.. but if you think you are playing a cupcake and a tough team, all too often the “cupcake” totally focuses on you, you don’t focus at all on them and they knock you off. Sadly, the Salukis were not really cupcakes that day and neither were the Redbirds (who were ahead or tied the whole way in sets, winning in 5) today. Illinois should drop out of the Top 25 unless they somehow manage to beat Marquette after losing to Illinois State. One of the chief weaknesses of the old one-day round robin format was “dead rubber” matches. If two teams have won all their matches and qualified for the final, their last round-robin match is meaningless. Sometimes the last round-robin match is between the qualifiers who have more incentive to lose the “dead rubber” match (by benching important players and hiding match strategies) than to win it. |

pulled stats from this morning’s match…i know this does not solely fall on Brown’s shoulders, but our 5th year setter set us to a
.182 in set 1
.023 in set 2
.385 in set 3
.231 in set 4
and .100 in set 5.
How on earth is she still having miscues with our OH and Middles? I saw so many off sets from her today and I just don’t understand how that’s possible when you’ve had FOUR years to work on the Collins connection. Maybe i’m being too harsh, but losing matches that we should be winning is very tough to stomach.
I said it in another post, but there is ZERO on the court leadership with this team. I hope someone steps up fast, otherwise the B1G schedule is going to eat them up and leave us at home come December.

Watched the match on Youtube. We just look bad. The ISU hitters go up and take a crack at the ball. No one on our squad really goes up and takes a rip. Too many tips and roll shots. Way more fight in ISU
