this marquette team is really good!!! I respectfully disagree, if we judge their play against the Illini. Or, we then say instead, that the Illini aren’t performing to potential. The Illini almost beat them, and if they weren’t gassed from playing a 5 setter earlier, they would have. Or one could say, the Illini played as they did, because they lost to an in state team and they were angry. Who knows? I sure don’t as I sat through both matches. But someone mentioned Jekyll and Hyde earlier, and I have to agree, at least for Illinois. Go, Illini! Channel your self that beat Kentucky when it counted! 😊

It’s possible that the game earlier may have taken a toll on Illinois but don’t take anything away from the Golden Eagles. They could have folded after a disastrous 3rd set but they didn’t. This squad is more than decent and can compete. The question will be if they can get over the Creighton hump this year.

Would love a scouting report on Marquette from you Big East aficionados! Yadhira Anchante is the best setter that no one knows about. Hamilton-Reitsma is a good Oh duo, but both can be error prone Murray has really exploded in the middle this year. Hattie Bray is a freshman that is showing she fits in. They’re a strong serving team (maybe not as strong as Illinois though). Ella Foti is their right side and has done really well, imo. She’s a converted setter. Illinois’ block and passing has to be on if they want to win… or serve really really well. Nunge/Terry/Barnes are going to be under a lot of pressure Small correction. I believe Bray is a Red shirt Freshman.

I believe Bray is a Red shirt Freshman. Skyrabak and Murray are the only two MU starters who returned and are healthy. Foti and Bray are redshirt frosh who both sat last year. Vanden Berg and Svetnik are out on ACL rehab. Vanden Berg may be further along as she went down last year with about seven games to go. Overall, MU is very young so consistency will be key as players gain experience. I was encouraged that they fought back after they became unraveled in that third set. As to getting over the hump versus Creighton, these two teams are very close. Theis does a very good job in early season prep, can he continue to advance the team in Big East play? If they beat ISU today, it will be their best start ever going into conference play which was a bit unexpected after graduation and injuries from last season.
