Wow. USA lost nearly 15 ranking points in losing 0-3 to Serbia today. Italy sits just 3 points behind in 2nd and Brazil another 3 points behind in 3rd.

It's clear that Karch did not care about winning this match, just like he did not care about beating China in the VNL. The VNL match actually didn't matter though. I don't think you'd mess around with World Champs since results carry over unless you were extremely confident. I think USA will be fine to be clear, and I know the USA Program is in a much better state than 2018, but in the last World Championships when USA finished its 2nd round matches they were scoreboard watching, hoping that Russia would lose to China in the final match of the pool. Lucky for them, Russia did win, so USA advanced. China won, lol. And I still can't believe Jenny didn't rest Zhu for that match.

Not that it really matters if you are 1st or 3rd.

China (or any team) should always do what is in their best interest to winning the Event, and that would have been resting Zhu. But then it looks like you may be throwing the match to ensure that USA wouldn't advance.

For example, throwing a match to ensure your competitor doesn't advance could be in your best interest to winning the overall event (London 2012). But most people would consider that a lot less "ethical".

Personally, I think resting starters is OK, and I think in that particular case they could've beaten Russia anyways.
I guess JLP has higher ethical standards than I do.

im going to tell myself this is 4D chess by Karch to recreate the Russia game from Tokyo. actually I forgot he threw to China at 2021 VNL too… maybe he is the mastermind lol But he didn't start Hill at libero this time so it doesn't count 😉

I'm not avid, but no. This pool will crossover with Thailand Dominicana Turkey Poland, and top 4 play quarters inside their own group. Wait, wtf? There's no crossover? Looking at the FIVB graphics, even semifinals are within the own groups. No crossover until bronze/gold medal match.

Why are so many blaming this loss on one person who didn’t even play the whole match? I saw sets 1 & 2 and bits of 3. Serbia is just better than the US plus they have Bosco and the US does not. Didn’t Serbia also knock the US out of the VNL even without Bosco? The US has a good team. Just not the best one. Not a big deal. yes everyone is bad, from passing, to setting(Poulter is bad in setting maybe because of injury and wish to see Carlini future times), SWP passing is even worse than Bajema which is astonishing. Blocks are everywhere, which is expected from Serbia. But the person who did not even play the whole match is blamed so much is because she is so terrible in all aspects that leaves such an impression to everyone watching the game, especially when the opponent team has the best opposite and looks like she is amateur.... she should never never ever be on court again.
