theres plenty of black players in Turkey and one of their most popular players is openly gay. Theres a few isolated chatter on the internet but youre really exaggerating here. I love Turkey, but don't tell me that it's the land of human rights, lol. its decidedly not but theres almost no racial abuse of players.

Poulter to everybody right now:
Honestly, I feel bad for Poulter. She's been getting SH*TTED on by volleytalkers all tourney. Only for Carlini to get a start in the Bronze match and get SWEPT. And swept bad... People don't realize Poulters worth until we look like the way we played today. Lol that is comical.

As a queer Black person, some of these takes on Egonu's situation are really awful. Like, some of y'all are telling on yourselves real bad right now.

I feel bad for Egonu. She chose Vakifbank... she will have to live under oppression again theres plenty of black players in Turkey and one of their most popular players is openly gay. Theres a few isolated chatter on the internet but youre really exaggerating here. I am not talking about Turkey, I am talking about Vakifbank only. Vakif players have rules to obey because it is a national bank which is run by people who are assigned to the mission by the president of Turkey. Anne Buijs, another openly gay volleyball player had a podcast about it if I recall correctly.

She wants a break from the national team - that's not the same as playing club volleyball, and if she chooses to play in TUrkey, more power to her. Racism is terrible in any form, but I'm sure it's worse when it's coming from your co-citizens. I can't imagine playing for a country with fans that doubt if I even belong or should be living in said country.

Turkey will change governments to a progressive, secular and left wing one according to all polls next year. Istanbul is a very international city and VakifBank is a very elite and well organized club, she will have a blast I'm sure. Turkish people LOVE to hype up their black players unlike in Italy, even in the Ottoman Empire, which Turkey is the successor of, ''black people'' or ''asians'' were a regular part of the common folk so the white supremacy culture never made it here, thus it never became a cultural problem here. We do and did have ethnic clashes but it's not race based. changing governments doesnt change the people though….and this type of thing comes from a small number of people, not the established mainstream majority of any country. So this isnt really that relevant. Also vakifbank allegedly has questionable financial ties to the current government, which is very invested in sport. Yep but like I said, it's not prevalent to have this white supremacy ingrained in our system like many European nations or North America. Thus Turkish people will only be ignorant about black people at most because there aren't many in Turkey anymore, but most will simply admire them a lot for their game. Also in italy it's also the media, when Italy won Ech, the Italian newspapers cut Egonu and Sylla out of the team photo. And someone said earlier that the hosts made a remark and compared Egonu to a certain animal which I'm not going into detail about. Again just unthinkable things in Turkey. VB has ties with the government indeed, but the government are conservative religious people, not racist, I hate them but they don't target black people no. It's maybe not the best place to be gay but then again Ebrar thrived under VB lmao, they are more the don't be slutty in our face types of people (VB not the government) and again they will die off next year.

Do you remember that the last two games she started we got into a 2-0 deficit and the only game of the two we won was Carlini in relief.

Sorry I should have been more specific, I hope I didn't offend Turkish people. I just wanted to underline the fact that Paola will continue to feel oppression, maybe not as much as in Italy but she will have rules to obey. For example, if she were in Eczaci or Fener; she wouldn't have to. But she is in Vakif and that is why I felt bad. She seems to be a free spirit and idk if she knew this side of Vakif.

Also I think we could have maybe have won that Serbia game if Karch didnt do a dub sub put carlini and cuttino in just for them to get us into a 4 point deficit when it was even in set one and two.

Anne Buijs, another openly gay volleyball player had a podcast about it if I recall correctly. She was still all positive btw in that podcast and said they don't interfere in their private lifes, she also gave an interview in Dutch media and said she was very happy and surprised how easy she was able to integrate into Turkish culture and how welcoming everyone was, she even managed to integrate into the driving culture in Turkey which she wasn't sure was a good idea when she goes back home
