It looks like Pavan and McBain are now signed up for the next couple of Elite 16 events, in addition to the Jurmala Challenger.

It looks like Pavan and McBain are now signed up for the next couple of Elite 16 events, in addition to the Jurmala Challenger. They'll need some teams to drop out in order to get into an Elite 16 qualifier. Even if Gstaad has an expanded field with no qualifier again this year they don't have enough points. But currently, Gstaad is listed as a regular Elite 16 event.

I don't believe Molly has AVP eligibility.
Sophie is playing this weekend in the NORCECA World Championship Qualifier with Shanice. They should be able to earn one of the four available slots against a weak field.
Sophie and Shanice have not signed up for the upcoming FIVB events in Edmonton and Montreal. There are plenty of other Canadian entries, and they are a noticeable omission given their effort at getting to Worlds. Still time, I suppose.
Meanwhile, Brandie and Mel just signed up for the Challenger event in Jurmala. They are in the main draw (4 seed). Sarah and Molly and the McNamaras are in the qualifying draw.

Then why can neither of them find a high level partner that would give them a shot to podium in Paris? Do you really, not even for one second, want to acknowledge it has become known and shared, that they are difficult people to play and work with, therefore not worth investing the time and effort for something you will not enjoy? Why can't Kerri find a good partner now? Because she isn't that good anymore and can't stay healthy. Why couldn't she in 2017 would be a more honest question and the one relevant to the current debate. The reason neither could find a partner that they could work with is that the younger players in question prioritized personal fit over winning and refused to adapt what they wanted and thought to what had been proven. Sarah is also hobbled by the field of available Canadians. Im not sure what you mean by "difficult people to play with". Kerri was won full field FIVBs with more partners than any player in US history (5). She was one half of the longest successful partnership in U.S. history (other than maybe JJJ/Nettie) She was one half of the most and second most successful partnerships in U.S. history She has won the second most FIVBs and the most AVPs of any woman. She won multiple events on both the left and the right Played multiple events where she was so injured she couldn't raise her arm because it was good for the team (this happened with April and Nicole) That doesn't seem like someone who is very difficult to play with. Why are some people assuming that no one wants to play with Pavan? There are a lot of younger players that want to play with her and it is Pavan who is trying to find the best fit (so far that is McBain - who I don't disagree is one of the best possible options for her). The problem is, as guest2 mentioned, Canada has limited players ready to step up to the elite level (that have points). Canada typically only funds (and not very well) the top two pairs. Some NextGen players receive nominal funding for travel, etc. for NORCECA events, age-group events, etc. but they have to reach a certain standard of play to obtain longer-term funding. The McNamara twins had difficulty maintaining funding and had to win a certain amount in order to receive the funding. While there is a training centre in Ontario for identified players, this lack of funding is probably one of the biggest reasons for a deficit of players ready to make the next step into a higher level of play for Canada. Most of the up-and-coming players have to fund most, if not all, of their training themselves (and live in Ontario to train). Many up-and-comers quit playing and as a result, there are not many players for Pavan (or Bukovec) to choose from that have enough points or experience to make an Olympic run this quad.

Indeed, and with the lack of young players ready for the next level, Bukovec has now turned to veteran Heather Bansley. They are signed up for the two upcoming Canadian FIVB events and a challenger event in Europe. This would mean Sophie is back to blocking, I assume.

There will be some interesting decisions to be made for the Wild Cards into those two Canadian events. Bansley has no points remaining unless she tries to claim an injury.

I'm thinking Bansley was testing waters with retirement, but if she's still in shape to play, I don't see why not. She played last minute last year and got 1st place, even as she was playing coach to the youth teams in other events.
