Indeed, and with the lack of young players ready for the next level, Bukovec has now turned to veteran Heather Bansley. They are signed up for the two upcoming Canadian FIVB events and a challenger event in Europe. This would mean Sophie is back to blocking, I assume. Woah, Sophie dropped Shanice already?

Could be only a temporary partnership. Sophie/Shanice just qualified for World Champs. Not sure what happens to that spot if they’ve truly split. It would be kind of surprising if Heather wanted to come back on the FIVB tour full time. She seems to be really involved with coaching. Assuming Mel/Brandie win one Olympic spot on points, it will be interesting to see what Canada does with its teams to try to win a second spot.

The norceca spot is actually awarded to the federation, not the players. That doesn’t mean it won’t go to Sophie and Shanice, but the partner swapping sure muddies the waters. There’s so many moving parts right now it’s hard to say what’s going to happen without being on the inside.

Woah, Sophie dropped Shanice already? She seems to be the common link of the Canadian partner splits I don't think so. Looking at success in the FIVB, I'd say it was mixed. Brandie and Pavan dropped Sophie, and I'm supposing Sophie dropped Shanice, but temporarily... and that the first domino to fall, the causal domino, was Heather retiring... and now temporarily unretiring.

I seem to recall that Sophie called Heather after Brandie dumped Heather. Or maybe it was after Brandie dumped Sophie. Either way, I’m wondering if Heather now feels sympathy for Sophie after seeing her be dumped by both Brandie and Sarah. I don’t know if Heather was directly working with Shanice in her coaching role with Canada, but it does seem a little odd that she would split that team up, even temporarily, so she could play herself. Maybe she thinks this would be the best way for Sophie to earn entry points. Or perhaps she’s serious about a comeback, and she views her and Sophie as the only possible Canadian team who could win that second Olympic spot via continental cup, especially with Sarah apparently trying to start a family. I’d love to hear a perspective on all this Canadian partner switching from the McNamara twins.

Are you basing that upon how animated she was speaking about babies in her Sandcast interview? Or has something else come out since then?

Yes, the subject was discussed on her recent Sandcast interview. She said her husband has always wanted kids, and she had resisted until recently, but now she's seriously thinking about it. I took this to mean they were actively trying but probably didn't want to say so directly because success is certainly not a given at her age.

Is it “confirmed” that it was Sarah that dumped Sophie recently instead of the other way around, or a mutual split?

It’s such a bummer seeing Sophie needing to scramble for partners, but I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. It *seems* like she has a good on-court attitude, high work ethic off-court, and showed tons of potential partnering with Brandie. As much of a fan as I am of Melissa, I was still disappointed to see Brandie and Sophie’s partnership end so soon (and after winning World Championship Silver).

Well, you got the "Brandie dropped Sophie" part correct. Sophie has not dropped Marcelle as they are not permanent partners. Sophie is trying out some partners and will likely have a different partner after Paris.

Brandie really liked playing with Sophie, and of course her moving to MHP is an obvious. Tha swap is a non issue.
Maybe Pavan is particular, and maybe Sophie just didn't have what she was looking for. I wouldn't read any more than it didn't work out.
Who knows what happened with Shaneice(?). Canada doesn't have a deep talent pool. Bansley is the second best Canadian defender even coming back out of retirement, so looks like amo Brainerd for her.
