Not sure if you guys know, but Pavan was kicked out of Nebraska's program back in her college days. There is a lot of disfunction out there in different avenues of volleyball where she is the centerpiece. I don't know the entire story, but sometimes in life when you're surrounded by @$$%*!*s, maybe you're the @$$%*!*. Wait, what? Didn’t she win NCAA titles with the Huskers? Jordan Larson’s teammate? She did, and then there were rumors that she was the primary reason why the All American setter Rachel Holloway transferred. After that happened, John Cook basically kicked Pavan off the team. That says a whole lot, without saying a lot.

After she finished up her eligibility at Nebraska, she was training with the team the following Spring before graduation. There were...issues with some public comments she made, and John Cook essentially kicked her out of the gym permanently (IIRC). Fair or not, Pavan has carried a reputation for being a difficult personality from her college days to present day.

Pavs was never planning on retiring. It's unfortunate the McNamaras insist on sticking together. I wonder if they are going to consider a change, at least after June 2024? I wonder if they can even afford to travel the world while taking home an ave of $1,000 each per tournament playing volleyball. Does the Canadian Federation pay their travel as USA does for its top teams? Do they have to pay hotel and dining expenses the day after they are eliminated from a tournament the way USA players do If their parents are supporting this venture, that's fine. Their choice. If credit cards and 2nd mortgages are involved, that would be a disaster. I don’t want to speak personally on the twins except to say that teams other than the top 2 teams do get some funding based on a carding system and their performance at major events. I do not believe they have to pay their own expenses the next day if they lose a tournament, but they do have to maintain a certain standard in order to receive funding for travel expenses. Depending on an athletes ranking in the system they can get a monthly stipend during the months they are playing but it is not a lot.

Oh man I loved the Brandie and Sophie dynamic, and their potential. I understand if Brandie wants to *win now* though. I’m sure Sophie is feeling like a jilted lover, they were so tight and travelled together to tournaments even when Sophie was injured and sitting out 😔. Totally in the same boat, but Sophie has an opportunity to learn and experience place with Pavs and hopefully Pavs respects the fact she is not a top dog anymore and takes her under her wing for the good of Canadian volleyball. Not top dog anymore? Who is saying she isn’t (and really whoever said this)? I’m pretty sure VC doesn’t consider any of the four athletes to be “top dog”. The teams will sort themselves out as to who is ranked higher over the next while.

Took a dozen years, but there was an eventual reconciliation. Or, at least everyone made nice for a night. Pavan is one of Nebraska's all-time great players after all, and undeniably belonged in the HOF.

Pavs ... is not a top dog anymore Wait, what? I still think Pavs > Wilkerson. I might be in the minority, who knows. Pavan probably better overall. She is a better setter and attacker. Brandie is a better blocker. Serving is a toss up...depends on if Brandie's serve is on or off that day. Brandie appears to be the more positive, engaging, encouraging partner of the two which counts for something.

Pavan is a big money player. MHPavs won the World Championships in 2019 ($80,000), and Silver at the last World Tour Finals ($80,000), the two biggest payouts in the last four years. And MHPavs have two consecutive Golds at Commonwealth Games over Clancy/Mariafe. It's too bad such a big event team has to break up.

MHP had an injury but they lost the big money WTF to a team that is nowhere close to them talent wise. And in the biggest money event of all, the Olympics, they played an event that it seemed like they did all the time, i.e. they destroyed good teams in the early going then lost the first time they got pushed.

I don't think anything Pavan said in that interview should translate as her being the "bad guy" or a "bad teammate." All she did was speak the truth and about her feelings - all of which were after she has already played her 4 years at Nebraska. The entire situation is more a reflection on Cook in my opinion. He didn't like his program's dirty laundry being out in the public. As a coach, I don't blame him... but this doesn't mean she is a cancerous teammate. Now what was she like while playing as a teammate, I don't really know. Perhaps she was tough to play with, maybe she wasn't, I can't recall it's been 15 years. As for this situation with MHP, partnerships run dry... even Kerri and Misty did.

Shocker. I wonder what took Brandie and MHP so long to commit unless it had to come through Canada. I am also not convinced there is a clear #1 team between these 2. There goes any flicker of hope for the McNamara's. Same, it seems like the Chicago pairing was the writing on the wall which is disappointing because I liked Sophie was building with Brandie, but this is the clear correct choice. Also, I think Pavan is pretty much on the downslope, Sophie should take this opportunity to learn from a vet, but also pick up tendencies of what not to do. Lol no it wasn’t Sophie is overhyped, Mel is leagues above her Brandie won big out of this
