Chirichella is a good girl however, it had been quite some time since she had any outstanding results. Against relatively weak teams she attacked and walled well, against stronger teams she did not. The competition is high. In theory there would be Fahr and Mazzarro competing for the MB role. i'm surprised (no i'm not) that bonifacio has essentially been replaced in the MB pipeline lol For all I know (very little) Bonifacio could also play for the national team. I don't know what Mazzanti's ideas are, of course. What I wrote er an attempt to make sense of Chirichella's absence.

really, really random, but I’m passing through Bossier City right now, and there’s just no way the VNL decided to hold a round here

Vbmag says Mazzanti might be out after the Olympic qualifiers
Please let it be true. The Olympics without Egonu would be tragic

Did anyone watch Mex vs Chczech Republic? There are a couple of 17 year old players in the Mexican team that looked great. At the end of the fourth set, one of them (Topete), got the Mex team from 22-24 to 25-24

I am reporting part of a discussion on Pasini's (Italian journalist for Gazzetta dello Sport) blog between Pasini himself and a user: GLP : "the Velasco hypothesis as Manzzanti's successor is dated 2022 when the change was to be made. After that, it was a chase after lost time." U: "Why was the change not made at that time? Always the usual Egonu issue? Were there those who wanted the change and those who wanted to keep Mazzanti? I'm just guessing..." GLP: "They wanted to make the change in 2021 but they win the European Championship--- at that point it didn't seem appropriate. They wanted to do it in 2022 but after that outburst by Paola it looked like they listened to her to change the coach and they didn't feel like it. After yet another failure they had to surrender to the evidence." _______________________________________________________________________________________ This may be helpful in clarifying the chronology of events and roles. I have changed a few words due to translation difficulties but the sense is unchanged. Well---if it makes sense, of course. dal15al25.gazzetta.it/2023/09/25/si-apre-la-trattativa-per-portare-velasco-in-nazionale/(Among comments)

Not only no major conflicting events, but he also just failed to qualify via IOQT.

As I was about to reply to you, I realized that an article had appeared on the Gazzetta Dello Sport website that certainly reports the news better.
I hope it is understandable.

With Mazzanti gone, Velasco comes, Egonu back: the Italvolley revolution
The replacement of the Marche-born coach is taken for granted. The return of the Italo-Argentine coach to lead the Italian national team, which he previously coached in 1997, is imminent. With him should come back the star of our movement, and not only.... By Gian Luca Pasini
That attack by Martyna Lukasik on the night in Lodz, Sunday night in front of 8,000 Poles celebrating for the achievement of Olympic qualification, was the last flash of Davide Mazzanti's Azzurri career, who a few minutes later was already declaring, "Coaches are judged by results...," aware that this time "his" story is over for real. The farewell between Federvolley and Mazzanti is then also certified by federal president Giuseppe Manfredi, who has already spoken with the interested party, waiting to take a new road, which leads straight to Julio Velasco.
Bureaucratic timing remains. To ratify the change in technical leadership, one must wait for the next Federal Council meeting (not before mid-October, after the men's Olympic qualifier) where the Velasco proposal will be brought, which would thus rejoin the ranks of the Federation a few weeks after ending his contract as technical manager of the men's youth national teams. A new Olympic opportunity 27 years after leading Italy men's in the 1996 Atlanta final (with the gold finished to the Netherlands after the legendary tiebreak). In 1997 Velasco coached the women's national team for a few months before moving to Cragnotti's Lazio (Football Club). The experience was not unforgettable from the point of view of results (a fifth place at the European Championships in Brno), but in that management later entrusted to Frigoni the foundations were laid for the first Club Italia in history (Velasco requested it, then Magri realized it). And of a qualitative leap also from the point of view of the methodology of work, which was then confirmed a few years later with the first great successes of the National team starting with the European silver medal in 2001 and the gold at the World Championship in 2002 both obtained with Marco Bonitta on the bench.
"Qualification for the Paris Games," said federal president Giuseppe Manfredi after the Lodz defeat, "is well within our reach, and for the new season the Federvolley's goal will certainly be to reprogram on a new basis and with accuracy all the Azzurri's activities, to allow the women's national team to return to the top of world volleyball. As if to say that the new course has already begun. Apart from the historical suggestions linked to Velasco's name, the Federation also needs a name of great weight. Because it is necessary to reorganize an environment that in the last 2-3 years has shown technical, court, and also management problems. With a group that may not be as solid as has been said in recent months. A team "shaken by violent earthquakes," and then there is the Egonu issue (but not only that, given the other excellent exclusions, De Gennaro for first). Velasco is tasked with getting the national team to meet the requirements to participate in the Olympics and bringing some serenity back to a team that remains among the strongest in the world, but must prove it. Something similar has happened to this group before, but often it has not, as was also seen in the last summer, among the most miserly in the recent history of the national team, without even a podium. Now it will be a matter of finding a solution for Velasco's contract (he has a three-year deal with Busto Arsizio) and finding an economic agreement to take charge of Italy. But the problems, which nonetheless exist and do not seem insurmountable, are almost all technical-bureaucratic. It seems more complicated to "repair the damage" suffered in recent years by the national team (and not all of it through the fault of Mazzanti, who shares responsibility with the Federation). Among other things, although it is a foregone conclusion, Velasco's arrival guarantees that Paola Egonu will be back with the group. And it is to be believed that the La Plata coach will also make a number of considerations about other excluded from the season. Italy, we change, trying to avoid the latest macroscopic mistakes.
