Chirichella is a good girl however, it had been quite some time since she had any outstanding results. Against relatively weak teams she attacked and walled well, against stronger teams she did not. The competition is high. In theory there would be Fahr and Mazzarro competing for the MB role. i'm surprised (no i'm not) that bonifacio has essentially been replaced in the MB pipeline lol For all I know (very little) Bonifacio could also play for the national team. I don't know what Mazzanti's ideas are, of course. What I wrote er an attempt to make sense of Chirichella's absence. |

Did anyone watch Mex vs Chczech Republic? There are a couple of 17 year old players in the Mexican team that looked great. At the end of the fourth set, one of them (Topete), got the Mex team from 22-24 to 25-24

That attack by Martyna Lukasik on the night in Lodz, Sunday night in front of 8,000 Poles celebrating for the achievement of Olympic qualification, was the last flash of Davide Mazzanti's Azzurri career, who a few minutes later was already declaring, "Coaches are judged by results...," aware that this time "his" story is over for real. The farewell between Federvolley and Mazzanti is then also certified by federal president Giuseppe Manfredi, who has already spoken with the interested party, waiting to take a new road, which leads straight to Julio Velasco.
Bureaucratic timing remains. To ratify the change in technical leadership, one must wait for the next Federal Council meeting (not before mid-October, after the men's Olympic qualifier) where the Velasco proposal will be brought, which would thus rejoin the ranks of the Federation a few weeks after ending his contract as technical manager of the men's youth national teams. A new Olympic opportunity 27 years after leading Italy men's in the 1996 Atlanta final (with the gold finished to the Netherlands after the legendary tiebreak). In 1997 Velasco coached the women's national team for a few months before moving to Cragnotti's Lazio (Football Club). The experience was not unforgettable from the point of view of results (a fifth place at the European Championships in Brno), but in that management later entrusted to Frigoni the foundations were laid for the first Club Italia in history (Velasco requested it, then Magri realized it). And of a qualitative leap also from the point of view of the methodology of work, which was then confirmed a few years later with the first great successes of the National team starting with the European silver medal in 2001 and the gold at the World Championship in 2002 both obtained with Marco Bonitta on the bench.

It seems more complicated to "repair the damage" suffered in recent years by the national team (and not all of it through the fault of Mazzanti, who shares responsibility with the Federation). Among other things, although it is a foregone conclusion, Velasco's arrival guarantees that Paola Egonu will be back with the group.
