I couldn’t find a ND thread so I commented on their drubbing of Indiana yesterday in the Purdue v Creighton thread… Salina seems to have the Irish moving in the right direction. They lost to Indiana today. I guess you win some and you lose some. Their conference schedule starts off soft, with a match against Stanford.

Salima and Aird are both trying to follow their mentor Russ Rose….Salima by taking over a program and trying to build a winning tradition; and Aird by balding, getting seriously big, and sitting stoically thru the entirety of matches😀

Stanford coming to ND Friday Sept 27th. Will be a football weekend so maybe they can bring in a good crowd. Free admission. See if ND can hang with the Card.

Does Notre Dame have any fans here or are they reserved for fb? They can draw a few thousand for good opponents. They don't do any local advertising or much outreach that I know of, so they could do alot better there. It is great for fans that do go with the free admission and the ability to sit wherever you want for the most part. Sit courtside, end line, wherever, pretty sweet deal. The Joyce Center could be awesome if they could draw bigger crowds. It can get really loud with just 3,000 fans. Football weekends have great potential since there are thousands in the area already. Would be really insane environment with 9,000. Salima is on the right path, who knows where they could be 2-3 years from now.

2024 so far: 2-13 in Conference. Sitting on an 11-match losing streak.
Is Notre Dame doomed to be unsuccessful in VB?
Or is it too early to tell if rebuilding is going to work?

No, I don’t think they’re doomed to be unsuccessful. The 2-13 record in such an ultra-competitive conference doesn’t fully reflect their overall skill level or how close and competitive many of their matches have been. Additionally, a major injury is currently impacting the team, which has undoubtedly affected their performance. Moving forward, I expect Notre Dame to remain competitive against the majority of teams in what is arguably one of the strongest conferences in the country. Just my perspective.

They’ve suffered numerous injuries and have multiple starters out. They’ve got a good core coming back next year along with an all star 2025 class. If they can figure out how to stay healthy they will be good.

The only player I know is Morgan Gaerte, and I imagine her absence would make a huge difference. She’s been out for the last four matches, which must be tough for the team.

Experiment is not over: and the portal can make a change happen quickly. But playing accolades, and being part of winning program as assistant coaching doesnt guarantee head coach success. I would like to see Salima do well: but i am in the pessimistic group hoping to be wrong

Notre Dame is like Northwestern. How can such a great academic school be so bad? Stanford has a winning formula. Some of which is weather.

Rockwell is a first-time head coach and is also coming off of a 5-year retirement. The college game also changed SIGNIFICANTLY (both in structure and IMO in style) while she was away.
People expected instant success, but she probably needs longer ramp-up time to get in a groove than people think, if she does get there.

Before she was hired in Spring 2022, a good core of returners transferred out and there were several decommits, including Eva Hudson. At that point the 2023's were already committed, and there was just a short time to ramp up for the 2024 class.
That all means that she started with very little in the cupboard in 2022, and 2024 is her first fully recruited class, and even that one was a bit of a rush. To me, in that situation, she gets a pass for 2022 and 2023 and should start showing steady improvement for 2024, 2025 and 2026. That will be the test. If they plateau at this level for a few more years, that will be a problem.

They also lost Aubrey Hamilton, who is currently Marquette's leading scorer.

They also had Rachel Jepsen with a signed LOI, but got out from under it with the coaching change, and she landed at Pitt for two years before she decided to go do a mission.
I think ND's freshmen this year look pretty good. I think they're on the upswing, at the moment.
